[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Rose Lalonde
Age: 13
Gender: Female
Fandom: Homestuck
Timeline: Right before she alchemizes her Thorns of Oglogoth.
History: Wiki on the canon, and Rose's wiki page.

Character Personality: Serious and bristling with dry humor, Rose is one of the most rational characters in Homestuck. In a series rife with absolutely ridiculous typing quirks her own speech is perfect, albeit packed to the gills with complex words. This is because for a thirteen year old girl Rose is incredibly intelligent - she enjoys psychoanalysis and seems to have read up considerably on the subject, along with many others. In fact, she may have read up a little too much. Rose has a tendency to be long-winded and dense, often using paragraphs to explain things that would just as easily have been conveyed in a sentence. Despite her efforts to tone down the rhetoric, she can't help sharing her thoughts and theories on whatever subject is being broached.

The difficulty in keeping things to the point may be because in all other areas of her life Rose is an extremely private person. She prefers to keep her thoughts, intentions, and creative works to herself. This is taken to the extreme when she attempts to shield her writing journals from being viewed by the Homestuck readers. Coupled with her penchant for sarcasm, it's incredibly difficult to discern what Rose is doing/plans to do. As she's stated to like the 'happy surprises' her fetch modus brings her, it's likely that she enjoys surprising other people with her actions.

Rose is incredibly sarcastic and cynical, seeing everything through jade-colored glasses. She has difficulty acknowledging that the actions of others may in fact be sincere as opposed to a passive-aggressive jab at her or cruel irony. This applies not just to people she dislikes but to her friends as well; when John sent her knitting supplies for her birthday she told Jade it was a 'facetious sentimental gesture' and probably also a dig at her hobbies. Because of her competitive nature, such actions prompt Rose to engage in a campaign of passive-aggressive one-upmanship in order to come out on top of the theoretical battle of sarcasm.

These battles show off Rose's determination and occasional need to go above and beyond the call of duty. In order to combat the gauntlet she perceived John's gift to have thrown down, she mastered knitting in the span of five months in order to craft John a gift for his birthday that would utterly destroy him with its false thoughtfulness. Also Rose has been engaged in a one-upmanship struggle with her mother for many years, going to such lengths to gain the high ground as to buy subtly mocking Mother's Day gifts and have thank you notes legally notarized. She believes that her mother's actions are solely done in order to mock her through the use of cruel irony, but how much of this perception is Rose's own inability to accept the sincerity of others in regards to herself is yet to be seen.

Besides psychoanalysis Rose has a passion for all things macabre, especially mythology of a Lovecraftian nature. She enjoys things that most people would find off-putting or demonic, such as Bro's puppet porn site (although how much of this is just to fluster Dave is unknown). Although her friends sometimes worry about how much she dabbles in the grim, Rose is perfectly confident that she knows what actions cross the line from relevant interest to endangering her own safety and the fabric of the universe.

Despite all of her negativity and suspicion of other people's intent, Rose does have a sentimental side. It's heavily hinted that the whole reason she decides to play Sburb is to resurrect her dead cat, whose corpse she takes with her to protect it from being burned by the wildfire. For all her accusations about John sending her knitting gear as a way to mock her interests, she does take up the craft. Not only that but she combines a precious family item with her knitting as a gift for John's birthday, a gift which she delivers late because she wanted it to be absolutely perfect. In the letter accompanying the gift she explains her lack of well wishes on his birthday were not because of callousness but because she values his friendship to the point where she felt that simply saying 'happy birthday' wouldn't convey her feelings adequately. No matter what she may say, Rose would do anything to protect her friends.

Character Abilities: Rose is incredibly intelligent, both on and off the battlefield. She's able to take out an ogre several times her size with just a pair of knitting needles and some yarn, for example. Beyond fighting, she shows a remarkable talent for improvising in dangerous situations. She finds increasingly clever measures to continue powering her laptop, for example, as well as go toe-to-toe with Dave in the word subversion department. To top it all off, her intelligence is tempered with understanding of what she's read - she knows what every criminally long word or complex theory she cites actually means.

If her repeated use of Youth Rolls and other similar tumbles is anything to go by, she's fairly acrobatic. She also knits something fierce and plays a mean violin.

Character Weaknesses: With all of her grim interests, it's frighteningly easy for Rose to become absorbed in sketchy things - her friends have expressed on numerous occasions their concern over her falling too far into dark things. She has a natural inclination for morally gray choices, and out of the four kids is the most vulnerable to becoming the 'troublemaker' player of their session. This is seen with greater force after she begins to follow the voices of the Dark Gods (after where she's being taken), but as she is now the potential for going down the same path remains.

Rose is incredibly secretive despite her verbal density. She hides as much as she can from people, going so far as to even shield her writing journals from the prying eyes of the real life viewers. Being incredibly cynical herself, Rose has difficulty accepting the possibility that other people may be sincere in their words and actions. She doesn't like to acknowledge any close ties she may have developed to people, cloaking them in layers of sarcasm instead.

[ MEISTER ONLY SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister: The server-client relationship in Sburb is very similar to a meister-weapon partnership - while one player controls the other's environment, both players are equally reliant on the other for different things. Rose has been a server player the longest, and for the most part managed to keep things together well. She's also proven herself to be cool under intense pressure.

Meister Ability: Soul Experience. Soul Focus. Soul Bait. If you guys can think up an ability that's more appropriate for Rose, please use that. Seriously.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Soul Description: Calm, Unnerving, Loyal, Cynical, Serious, Passive-Aggressive.

Soul Appearance: Small and colored in her trademark lavender. Wearing one of her headbands, looks faintly amused.

First Person: Your tour was amusingly informative, if a bit scattered. There's no point in calling for organized lines if your attendees refuse to follow direction, don't you think? Regardless, it served its purpose; most of my cursory inquiries have been answered. I'm sure this is a monumental relief to the residents that one less rash individual will be screaming over the network about issues easily taken care of.

Along with the more mundane matters of whether or not this city connects in any way to the landscape I'd been previously inhabiting, I've had the good fortune of being informed that an iteration of myself has already passed through this particular interdimensional nexus. This is more than a little disturbing because as I'm sure you've already gathered I have no recollection of such an event, and unlike some of my peers am not blessed with time-based abilities.

Assuming that the story told to me by my guide was not an elaborate ruse meant to unsettle me in any way that the arrival may have missed, this becomes a troubling revelation. I have no reason to have a double of myself gallivanting about getting herself sucked out of important duties, so the logical theory would be that the Rose emerged from one of the numerous splinter timelines. The sticking point with this line of thought is that it lends itself to the assumption that this is where non-alpha persons are transported to fulfill some cosmic mission before finally passing out of existence.

As I'm sure is obvious, acceptance of this hypothesis as fact has too high a danger of inciting existential concern over whether or not one is from the alpha timeline or not - so to save my mental faculties I believe I'll cast it off and pursue the alternate idea that the initial Rose and her departure operate outside of the confines of the mindset I'm accustomed to tackling problems in. Perhaps the longer I stay here the greater my chances of learning the truth will become.

...I have quite a few other topics that I'd like my first discourse to you all to cover, but it seems that in my excitement I've lapsed back into my rambling ways. My apologies to those waiting breathless for more of my opinion on the nature of reality in this universe, but as a courtesy to the rest of the city I will be cutting myself short here.

That is to say, my name is Rose Lalonde. It's a pleasure to meet you all. Or re-meet, as the case may be.

Third Person: Rose shifted in place, shaking her limbs out to better adjust them to her new dress. Yes, this was a marked improvement on her original clothes. The addition of magical reach to her strife specibus nullified the impracticality of the lengthier skirt, making this outfit a triumph of elegance over logic. Still, thinking about her needlewands brought Rose back to what she'd been contemplating since waking up.

There had been voices calling out to her on Derse. Not the clear tone she'd heard upon her entry into the Medium; little whispers tickling the back of her subconscious, probing for a crack by which to seep into her mind. She'd been too preoccupied with finding Dave to stop and listen to them fully, but what she'd collected on the brief trip between towers was troubling enough. If what they'd said was true no matter how much she and her friends strove, the end result would be the same as if they'd held back and let the meteors decimate them.

That was unacceptable. Rose refused to stand by and allow harm to come to the others, so her next move was clear. The Dersite voices seemed to know how to circumvent the impending doom and as such their directions should be followed. But at her current power level carrying out the tasks was near impossible - she'd need to ratchet up the lethality of her needles if she ever hoped to make a difference.

Casting her eyes about the platform for something suitable to alchemize the needlewands with, Rose's eyes fell on the Grimoire. She picked it up and dusted whatever filth had attached itself to the cover off while contemplating the idea slowly forming in her mind. She'd had a very legitimate reason for not allocating the book to her specibus at the beginning of her adventure: it was an incredibly dark book, full of twisted information that could easily unleash forces of the innermost ring. Even with full confidence in her willpower, the idea of utilizing the book's spells gave Rose pause.

And yet...she needed to help the others. Really, what other choice did she have? But before Rose had a chance to combine the punch cards, the world seemed to tilt beneath her. Despite her best efforts the sudden shift in terrain caused her to topple over and crack her head against the floor. The last thing she registered before drifting into blackness was chains and rubble.

It seemed like Sburb didn't take kindly to the potential of being attacked.
