FurCoNZ 2008 - The Organisational Viewpoint

Dec 02, 2008 19:02

Nov 21-24, 2008. A weekend that was full of win, a bit of fail, and a me feeling damn well accomplished and by the end of it, mucking funted.

I've taken on some big projects this year, two of them being Manawatu Summer Shakespeare (which I'm supposedly doing again next year), and the Manawatu Festival of New Arts - both of which I was a techy and respectively lighting and audio director. I enjoy a challenge and always look back feeling good no matter how worn out I get, but nothing could have really prepared me for taking on FurCoNZ this year - the NZ furry community's annual big meet and greet. It's not your traditional con, and it's nowhere near as big as the likes of Anthrocon or Further Confusion overseas, but it's our little shindig and we like it. More like a gigantic furmeet with a slight bit of organisation and structure to it.

Overall, it was highly enjoyable. I enjoyed myself (even if I was run ragged after several things went FUBAR, but like many bogans would say: It's not a party until the rozzers arrive. That's a story for another time though.) and many others had a great time drinking themselves silly, partying down, meeting and greeting and trading bits of arts and showing off their handywork in the realm of fursuiting. I got to catch up with alot of friends and acquaintances, and the hard work myself and my friend had put in became worth it (despite me paying for $236 of PA hire myself. Oh well, it sounded good ;) )

So from here, I say thanks to everyone who came along, everyone who supported me. It turned out great, and I look forward to next year!
