Snakes could, theoretically, commit suicide any time they want. All they have to do is find their tail, chomp down, start swallowing. Might be a bit painful, I'd imagine, but if you're a venomous snake, at least you get poison flowing through you to speed up the process. Unless, of course, you're immune to your own poison, in which case being poisonous is almost a waste; if you're not killing other things and are venomous, you should commit suicide. Which is why if a spitting cobra ate himself to death, I'd label him a pacifist.
