Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

I've been remiss in posting here but the awe-inspiring bit of filmmaking (and editing) I witnessed this weekend couldn't be contained.

This isn't a lengthy review by any stretch but for the few that actually pay attention to this space, I felt the need to post something.

I've worked on these movies for the last ten years and the verbiage 'It All Ends' plastered all over the one sheets is true for me in many more ways than for the average fan. Because I've been closer to the movies than most of my friends, I'm jaded.  I've suffered through taking multiple friends to multiple advance screenings because they love this series and I didn't. I freakin' SLEPT through my second screening of Deathly Hallows Part 1, for Gods sakes. These are the kinds of movies I generally love. I've wanted to love Harry Potter. And I haven't.

Until now.

A rollercoaster ride of emotion is the closest I can come to a description of this fantastic bit of filmmaking. If David Yates doesn't get an Oscar, I'll be disappointed - though, I usually am when awards season comes around.

It's got everything you're expecting because, really, who on the planet hasn't actually read these books? Except, there's nothing that can prepare you for the performances. The actors sell it. Their pain, their heartache, the sacrifices the characters have made so that others can live. They sell it so deeply that your heart breaks.

From Ron's agony (and damn if Rupert doesn't sell it lock, stock and barrel)  to the Pensive (Alan Rickman is brilliant. . And he sold it to me, the pain, heartache and sacrifice.) to the 'Will you be with me in the end? Always". (Rip my heart out and stomp on it Daniel).

The cast was so damn believable that I had tears streaming down my face by the end.

I've seen this movie twice in as many days now and BOTH times, you could hear a PIN drop in the next CITY for as agonizingly silent as it was in the theater. Silent except for the sniffling.

Easily the best movie of the year. And I don't think it'll be topped for a long time to come.
