Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Being me has its privlidges.

Best quote of the movie.

There won't be spoilers here, just some observations and opinions.

Rabid fans of the book are probably going to love this movie. From what I can remember, iIt pays close attention to the book, almost boringly so. It's very strong on character development. Even some funny moments that aren't there to break the tension, but to further develop the well-rounded characters. There is a lot going on in this film that you almost need to see it twice to make sure you notice it all.

But then - I'm not sure I could sit through it again. Those who are not rabid fans, who don't know what has gone on before, may leave this film depressed, confused and wondering what happened to the last two and a half hours of their lives. It is a good movie, just not one that I really need to see again.

I'm not a rabid fan of the books. I'm paid to read them so that I know what's going on, who is who, when my department begins work on the next movie. It's slow to build and feels like a Two Towers to the grand finale that was Return of the King.

And with that comparison in mind, I can honestly say it did what it was supposed to do; left one to slaver impatiently for the next film (there will be two more, after all, Book 7 split into two eagerly anticipated movies) so that one can see the brilliant revelations and climactic end to a story 10 years in the unraveling.

Go see it just so you can formulate your own opinions.
