i've been here and i've been there

they came on thursday afternoon. we drove into the sun looking for a place to eat. first we stopped at Vinyl Fever and the dub music was loud. we were the only ones in the place. i bought:

Ween, The Mollusk
Rhythm Devils, Apocalypse Now Sessions
Loose Fur, Loose Fur
Os Mutantes, Jardim Eletrico
Peregrine Took
Moby Grape, Grape Jam

then it was Byblos for falafel and fine Lebanese wine.
then, The Hubb...old friends coming together. laughs, drinks, revelations, jokes that would have been inappropriate years ago now were perfect to share. home late, upset honie bee, but things always get better.

friday night, we drove into the crescent moon. went to restaurant, too busy, so we walked the backstreets of Hyde Park to Ceviche which was too busy for us....so we decided we would splurge, eat like kings, pay a king's ransom for dinner. you don't have to ask me twice to spend money on good food. split a delicious $40 bottle of wine....had the world's greatest pumpkin soup EVER....tofu ragout....wine....
Keiff was a little down....then a lot of down....we swung by and picked up Sharebear.....walking down to New World like fucking Reservoir Dogs we heard Interpol in the distance...came to the realization that this is my crew....after all these years, we're still together....we had not seen each other in forever and then regrouped and it's like we never parted....Keiff was still down but he got better... much dancing ensued. much drinking and celebrating and tomfoolery with Miss Modular falling on the floor, ass in the air....there were photos taken...Sharebear and i sat back and laughed....i can't say enough about my crew....other than i love them dearly. no matter how far apart we move, we're still the crew.

"Walter, isn't it a shame the way our little world has changed?
Do you remember, Walter, how we said we'd fight the world so we'd be free?
We'd save up all our money and we'd buy a boat and sail away to sea.
But it was not to be.
I knew you then but do I know you now?"
--The Kinks, "Do You Remember Walter?"
(funny that when i write that, i hear the song in my head, the tears gather but a smile comes to my face)

my book is up on the Wasteland Press site...."read more about M. A. Torres' first book If Future, Please Cancel" it says....you can buy it there or buy it from me directly. it is cheaper and comes signed and personalized.

i also created a page for it on writerscafe for it too. see it here. so far this week, three copies sold. this time next year, how many copies actually read?

"I've been here and I've been there."
--King Crimson, "I Talk to the Wind"

sadly, the break in the collective that is King Crimson-- third vocalist for Krim (71-72), Boz Burrell (also of Bad Company) passed away this week. he is the first member of King Crimson to die.
RIP Boz, "Cirkus" was your best cut.
