There are several work-arounds, like someone else cooking, or having the children's favourite 4Ps (pasta, pesto, peas and parmesan) which barely counts as cooking, but the best solution is to get my ( Read more... )

Along the kinds of this, I think I'd make a big traybake thing.

Preheat oven and while its heating, parboil the veggies, chop and mix with 2-3 beaten eggs and garlic, herbs of choice, maybe splash of wine if you have.

Bung in dish, pour white sauce over, top with cheese/breadcrumbs.

Or, I'd use all the veg except cabbage, and serve that steamed on the side.

Bubble&squeak&haggis does sound like a contender, if I don't use all the haggis up in the lasagne. Cauli cheese I fear would not be popular, not least since the spare white sauce came from macaroni cheese the other day, which is a bit too similar for the adults tastes, although PB would happily eat macaroni cheese every day. I think trying to cater for 4 people's very diverse tastes is a big part of what I'm fed up of.

I am with PB - macaroni cheese is BEST, especially in this type of weather.
