A pretty good day

It's my birthday today and at 4.30am is seemed like it was going to be a rubbish day.  As all too often at the moment, I was lying in bed listening to PB crying (or being quiet in his father's arms but crying whenever he was put down), and feeling despairing, exhausted, angry, guilty, hard done by and indecisive.

This went on until 6am when we declare it to be morning and I feed PB.  But for the first time ever since I've stopped feeding him in the night, he fell asleep again.  And we all slept for another 2 hours, PB not waking up til gone 8.30 which is absolutely unprecedented.  So I don't feel completely knackered, for once. That was a pretty good birthday present.
I also received some more tangible presents, including a fab new watch with a lovely Rennie Mackintosh designed face (currently fitted with one of those irritating metal straps which trap bits of skin and hair, and is much too big, and has that massively over-used Rennie Mackintosh rose design on it.  But it looks like it will be possible to get the strap replaced with a plain black one, which will transform it into a very pleasing whole). And some biscuit cutters, one of which appears to be a phallus, which is odd given that the rest are stars, bells, hearts etc, but entertaining.  And an OS map of where I live showing 4 maps from different OS surveys from the 19th and 20th centuries. Maps are great.  And the traditional promises of presents to follow from tardy relatives.

I was quite productive at work, except when getting distracted by LJ. I had to write an introduction that would sew together a peach, a pear and a plum with a bicycle and demonstrate that they are all, in fact, modes of transport.  I managed to redefine 'transport' so that it did indeed include fruit and I even worked in a cartoon.

A colleague commented, in a rather surprised manner, that I was looking 'very stylish' today.  I don't think she was implying that my usual attire is remarkably unstylish. Perhaps she was dazzled by the splendour of my lovely new cufflinks.

After work I went for my second visit to a newly-found local osteopath, who was lovely again, and now I feel all relaxed and stretched and tall.  Also a bit sore, but in a good way. Although I did just pull something again by sneezing hard, which suggests it's not yet sorted.

And in a bit I'm going for a proper meal out, with dressing up, and wine, and good food, and a babysitter and everything (I'm not taking the babysitter with me. She's very nice, but not that nice).

Now if only PB would sleep through tonight, I'd count it as a very good day indeed.
