RSS woes, resolved
I got a note from LiveJournal tech support, and resolved my problem. Turns out that LiveJournal switched recently from Atom feeds version 0.3 to version 1.0. Safari evidently doesn't handle the new version. Switching to RSS syndication feeds has fixed the problem.
