how hardcore is the brooklyn real estate market these days? hardore enough that developers can't wait or don't want to pay for proper demolition. instead of paying for clean-up and abatement of toxic materials as required by law, one can just burn the building down, and start anew. the demolition permit for the warehouse was issued on 3/24/06, and the pre-flling for the sidewalk bridge began yesterday (the day before the fire). all the lingering smoke made for a nice sunset.
