New cup user, is it open?

Hi, I just got my first cup, the Organicup size A. I've been able to fold it and get it inserted without a problem, but I don't know how you tell if it has popped open? Trying to run my finger around the edge of the cup it doesn't feel folded but sort of.. flattened.. is that just the nature of er, where it is and the fact that it's flexible, or ( Read more... )

I'm fairly new as well, but I'll give you my experience anyway.
When I was first inserting the cup, I was using the punch down fold:

With this fold, I could get the cup in easily, but I could feel that it was still folded once inserted. I could clearly feel where the cup was still indented.

After some reading online, I modified and went to the triangle fold:

This, for me, allows the cup to pop open easily. I can feel that it's fully open by running my finger around the outside (not the rim). Yes, it does feel like it's squished into more of an oval, but I've worn it successfully that way for two heavy flow overnights with zero leaking.

Funny, I did have a final go with the punch down fold rather than the C fold the box suggests and I Think it opened better that time. Guess ill have to wait til my period to find out what's going on! (Luckily im off work the day it's meant to arrive so I can sit safely at home for the trial run, haha!)

I've never tried the twisting thing since I don't think it would work for me either. It just sounds really awkward. My Meluna cup seems to be slightly oval when it's inside of me (it comes out of me a little misshaped), but it's not so much that I can feel it with my finger, not that I noticed ( ... )

Try to let some air into the cup by pushing on the side. I've had this issue and sometimes need to reinsert the cup a few times till it opens correctly.

It sounds to me like you are doing it right.  When you put it in ur will be flattened.  But the midst important part is that the rim of the cup is not folded  on it self.  I have never twisted my cup once in,  I don't see the point of it and I only get leaks if I've missed by cervix or the cup is too full.
Once your cup is in and the rim is fully unfolded,  cup will be flattened,  so if you want to make sure it's opened,  pull on the stem and see if it slides out.  If you feel resistance it means you have a seal.  If the whole cup starts sliding out,  there is no seal,  so remove and try again.  Also moving cup,  once inserted,  work your pelvic floor muscles,  will help it sit better and seal properly.  Hope that helps

I'm only a new user, 2nd cycle, but I found my dry run 200% different to when I was actually on my cycle.
There was immense trauma on the dry run!
I can't fit my fingers in to work out if it's open or not either & I have a super long vagina so I can't reach up along side it anyway.
I find that I insert it & then do some pelvic floor squeezes & it all puts itself straight (or slightly crooked but well sealed in my case!) I sometimes give the tail a light tug to check it's sealed but don't really need to
