It's been about a year and a half since I started using my menstrual cup (diva cup) and about as long since I've posted here, but I'm definitely a lurker. Lots of good info! The menstrual cup has changed my life and made it so my periods are SO not a big deal and I can go about life as usual.
I had a Paragard IUD inserted yesterday morning and since then I've been wearing pads to be safe due to things I've read online and on this board. Though my GYN herself (a Paragard AND Mooncup user) said there was absolutely no reason I couldn't use the cup right away. She said a well placed IUD won't be expelled due to a tampon or menstrual cup, and seemed pretty confident about her experience with placing them, saying she'd never had a patient expel it in the hundreds+ she's placed over the last thirty years. Also note - she cut the strings deliberately short so I can use the cup.
That being said, I'm still a little nervous because of how I need to remove the cup. The base has always been too slippery for me to grab without pulling down on the stem at least a little bit to get it outside of the opening of the vagina so I can get a good grasp. My normal removal is pull down a little bit on the stem, pinch the bottom to break the seal, done. I've tried inserting a finger up the side to break the seal that way, but I guess I have short fingers because I've never been able to feel the top rim to do it successfully. My thought process here is that if sometimes bearing down can get it close enough to the opening to grab, then pulling on the stem should also be NBD, right?
The last 2 days of using pads has been so disgusting and miserable and I want to get back to using my cup ASAP. I was just hoping to get a little reassurance/advice first :)
TL;DR: I want to use my divacup with my IUD - inserted less than 48 hours ago. Want to confirm that my removal method is okay :)
Thank you <3 <3
