Newbie here...
Brian - I enjoyed reading your post, honesty and weirdness are good things...

I and my family moved to northern Louisiana from Tulsa OK last New Years...tracking down the local Mensa group was one of our top priorities...thinking they would be helpful...
well, they all seem to be older than us (we're mid-40s) and with older kids or no kids (we have a 7dd, & 5ds). So we don't fit. no sigs to speak of.

My sister lives in Kansas City, they have many active sigs and no monthly 'big' meeting. In Tulsa, we had monthly meetings, and few sigs. Each area is different.

We were both active back in Tulsa...membership of over 200 but only about 20 that were relatively active, 12 truely participated...we 'traded' officer positions for years cuz no one ran for office..anyway. After the kids were born - we being the only 'breeding pair', we kinda phased out.
DH had been an officer - I was Program Dir. for 6 years- had to quit when babies came.

Anyway. We are adrift in NW LA.

We were active in the Scottish heritage org. in Tulsa, too...but that morphed...long story and we phased out of it too...and ta da there's a group here but like Mensa its an older group w/o small kids. boo hoo.

DH and I are planning for our 'real' honeymoon (10years after the fact) in Scotland/Ireland for summer of 2007. Would have liked to gone this year when the World Science Fiction convention was in Glasgow...oh well

So our main source of socialization 'on-site' is church. "On-line" we have a strong science fiction literature network that keeps us sane. Is anyone into science fiction literature?

Self description - I am interested in so many things I can barely keep track but ask me and I might know something about it... I'm currently TRYING to focus on a religious studies, hand book making, crochet, breadmaking, simple/frugal living and childrearing...but the list goes on and on and on and....(oh and I do try to pay attention to hubby now and again.lol)

add me if you wish...let me know and I'll add you...

Brian - would like to hear more of your adventures in Mexico...I -a million years ago- was a foreign exchange student to Uruguay, SA and enjoy traveling and learning about new places..Louisiana is full of it...history that is. :-)
