the nice thing about livejournal compared to myspace is that you can create TONS AND TONS of special friends subgroups. on myspace you have four options: puplic, friends, private, or preferred.
i have four different friends subgroups on TOP of public, private and friends. and it's easier to use than making a preferred list on myspace. go to friends, drop down, edit friend groups and just put everyone on lists that way you can edit who sees what. it's extremely handy.

i'm not sure how you would go about adding people, but the way i find people is i join communities (by interest) find people with similar interests and add them that way. it's really awesome because i have tons of friends that are complete strangers on here that know more about me than a lot of my real life friends and it seems more anonymous that way. you know tons of stuff about them and they know stuff about you, and you bond with that. livejournal for me is also a way to keep in touch with the people that i know that don't use myspace, for example sarah in your case. anyhow, that's how i do it i guess. and also when i lived in corona it was the "cool thing to do," along with friendster hahaha
