This sucks so hard. I hate that Megaupload is down and probably out. I never liked that it was the main upload site anyway since if you're in a college that has rotating IPs, you can't use it.
But it kills me that certain places like jdrama only have Megaupload links and it kills me even more that they summarily considered just closing down their operation. Hopefully they won't follow through. I know they have a lot of links they'd have to redo, but that's the only place I've found certain dramas. I was in the middle of marathoning all of Kamen Rider Hibiki and now I'm screwed for the rest of the series I hadn't gotten to. Correction: I love subbing groups and particularly the one that did all the Kamen Rider series. I am set for that at least. Torrents for the win.
This is why I try to save all videos important to me. I would do so much more, but right now my external hard drive is full and I'm waiting on a new one I'm supposed to be getting.
Of course people are going to immediately panic, but I don't think communities like those on livejournal are in danger just yet. It's honestly a shock that no one has done anything about Megaupload up to this point. Everyone and their grandmother know what it's used for and there are still tens of sites out there that are the same. It's so public. I bet less than a few thousand people outside a fandom even know it exists on livejournal. It's much less likely to ever get hit unless new legislation passes, and even then... there are ways to navigate it.
I'm going to wait this out and see what happens. I don't think it's the end of the world, but it will seriously put a dent in my happiness if we lose all the dramas on jdrama. I had just started using it too. ;.;
