"This is a sophisticated and detailed proposal for what promises to be a fantastic project. You do an excellent job of justifying your choice of texts and of the everyday context. You will as you know, need to address issues of translation in writing the HT since it has circumscribed your choice of texts and/or the interests of critics writing in English. Most of all, I want to encourage you to consider whether it is realistic to cover something that could be a whole MA or Phd thesis in the space of 12, 000 words and suggest that you do two writers instead of three. I know it would be painful to cut Shi out, but you need depth more than coverage. And as you point out, three writers is not representative of Shanghai in any case. I am, however, confident that you will produce sterling work. Keep me posted as to how it goes."

Again, I couldn't have done it without You Lord. An 'A' from Forman means so much to me because he is so hard to please and rather critical, although he is extreme nice and a very smart man.
