Dragon Age 2 was godawful, but in an effort to build a stronger analysis when I speak or write about its flaws I'm playing it again. I'm trying to understand why females seem to be drawn to the game. I think this might have something to do with the one dimensional characters. Fenris never moves beyond being a slave, Anders is a terrorist, Aveline is the tomboy, Isabella a slut, and so on and so forth. Their labels define them. Which, is a great way to introduce us to characters. Starting with a predefined stereotype makes it easy for a player to become familiar with a character without too much effort. This could be why some females like them, they fit so nicely into boxes. However, a good writer is able to move beyond the stereotype and this doesn't happen in Dragon Age 2. And it's this aspect some fans may find appealing. Dragon Age 2 has a lot of great ideas that are not fully fleshed out. I think some fans want to give life to these empty characters.
