Hate is such a strong word
So my new game is Dragon Age. It has me by the throat and won't let go. It's one of those games I'll be so absorbed in I'll forget to eat, drink, and all those necessary things your body requires you to do. The funny thing--I loath the battle system and since this is an rpg the majority of the game is battle oriented. Now, I think if I actually played DA for the battle system maybe I wouldn't be so bothered by it. However, I play DA purely for the character dialogue. Namely the romances.
Now, here's where things just get dumb. I immensely dislike the main romance option. Alistair is your typical "princess" character. Now, I don't have anything against the princess-archetype if done right. Alistair is not. Alister is Ducky from Pretty in Pink. Ducky is a wonderful guy, a great friend. He's not boyfriend material. This is why the original ending to Pretty in Pink did poorly with test audiences. I know I would never want to date my awkward guy friend. Seriously, what girl dreams of that? So, yeah, despite my utter dislike of this character I'm still romancing him just so I can hook up with the elf boy and crush his heart. That's what I would like to do, but my character won't allow me. Even though she is utterly disgusted by Alistair's lame attempts at wooing her she has a thing for rescuing princesses. Boo to you, Cousland and your hero-complex.
Now, what I find interesting is this artist I follow, Aimo, she's a huge DA fan and she loves Alistair. But she draws him sooooo OOC. The only characterization she's kept is his penchant for blushing. But she's totally stripped him of his weirdness. And dude is weird. And awkward. And has low self-esteem. And thinks he's funny when he's not. He's just not. Oh, and lets not forget his corniness. And the fact he's a VIRGIN! What girl wants to sleep with a virgin? Dude is going to come as soon as he sees a vagina and where does that leave you? Come on, Bioware! Females are not like you males. You guys are all virgin cray-cray, we're not. We want experienced men who know what the hell they're doing. Have you not read any of our romance novels? Do you need me to send you some? You guys need to step your game up.
And yet, here I am, drawing fanart for the game and forming fanfiction ideas. I just don't even...ugh. Fable III was way better so why does this game have me so obsessed?! I hate you Dragon Age!
