BPAL order came in, yay! I went and picked it up in the silly rain. However, I still smell like Antikythera Mechanism (which I put on last night) so I may not try these out right away.

Chant D'Automne [Halloween 2008]
I
Bientôt nous plongerons dans les froides ténèbres;
Même pour un ingrat, même pour un méchant;
The scent of the year's fall and the setting sun, ominous and foreboding: dried leaves, charred wood, blood musk, amber, khus, and Nicotiana tabacum.
Fearful Pleasure [Sleepy Hollow 2008]
Another of his sources of fearful pleasure was, to pass long winter evenings with the old Dutch wives, as they sat spinning by the fire, with a row of apples roasting and spluttering along the hearth, and listen to their marvellous tales of ghosts and goblins, and haunted fields, and haunted brooks, and haunted bridges, and haunted houses, and particularly of the headless horseman, or galloping Hessian of the Hollow, as they sometimes called him. He would delight them equally by his anecdotes of witchcraft, and of the direful omens and portentous sights and sounds in the air, which prevailed in the earlier times of Connecticut; and would frighten them woefully with speculations upon comets and shooting stars; and with the alarming fact that the world did absolutely turn round, and that they were half the time topsy-turvy!
Dried orange peels floating in simmering cider, roasted apples, smoldering firewood, chimney smoke, sassafras beer, warm hawthorn wood, and oakmoss.
And the free imps...
Sloth [Sin & Salvation]
Thick, dark, sluggish and heavy with indolence: vetiver over black myrrh.
Port-au-Prince [Wanderlust]
Dark, decadent and incomparably exotic: the rich scent of buttered rum flavored with almond, bay, clove and sassafras.
Iago [Illyria]
Malevolent, dark and shadowy: sinuous black musk, wet leather and vetiver.
Le Serpent Que Danse [Ars Amatoria]
When, as by glaciers ground, the spate
Swells hissing from beneath,
The water of your mouth, elate,
Rises between your teeth --
It seems some old Bohemian vintage
Triumphant, fierce, and tart,
A liquid heaven that showers a mintage
Of stars across my heart.
A sinister, darkly seductive scent inspired by poetry of Charles Baudelaire. Violet entwined with vanilla and gardenia.
Queen Alice [Mad Tea Party]
There's a really long quote from the book, which I won't copy/paste here, but you can go to
the site to read it.
Carnation, posies, and white amber with a hint of inky treacle, sandy cider, and wooly wine.
Bloodlust [Diabolus]
A fiery Martial blend that embodies primal rage, lust for conquest, and all-encompassing desire. Dragon's blood essence, heavy red musk, Indonesian patchouli and swarthy vetiver with a drop of cinnamon.
Initial thoughts: Wow, three free samples with vetiver. I'm not entirely sold on this note either, but I'll try them all out anyway. They'll probably turn out too masculine, as they sure sound like they are. Port-au-Prince and Queen Alice both sound like they could be really good. Both Sloth and Serpent Qui Danse have few notes, so at the very least, it'll train my nose more (that is, I'm not yet familiar with violet, gardenia or myrrh).
Whee.
