Dude, I take too long to write... I sleep at 4 AM these days
I've never listened to music really until an internet friend of mine put a link to a website called last.fm. It's utterly lame. I played World of Warcraft too much and noticed Dan have a link on his chat status message. This happened January 2007. I was bored out of my mind so I looked at it and made an account. I downloaded iTunes and ripped a bunch of music from my sister's music collection. I notice this tag thing and found out you can search music by tags. I had this Simpson comic and I remember a panel I never understood. Bart and Lisa disgusting on finding out someone liked ska. I looked up ska but somehow decided on looking for Russian music as well. I found Leningrad. I thought it was cool, I looked for more Russian music and only found Splin and Nogu Svelo which are alright. I looked for more music and gradually added reggae, hip hop, dub, metal, industrial, hardcore, power pop, rnb, jazz, bluegrass, and big band. I got more but it's too much. I play catchy songs on repeat for days.
Genre History/Commentary, going down list of
[tags] on last.fm
Rock. I actually don't like most rock. I got Dead Kennedys, the Beatles, and a bunch of modern alternative bands. It all seems to run together too much and sound the same. I have more rock music, but I don't listen to it.
Hip Hop/Rap. I listen to a lot of this. When I was in middle school I thought rap sucked but it grew on me. I like the rapping and not listening to them, it's just like being at school.
Metal. Thank you, Dan for introducing me this stuff. I wanted to talk to you about music so I listened stuff you listened to so we had stuff to talk about. The first song I found for myself was Archetype by Fear Factory and I thought it was so kickass. There's many genres of metal though. Power metal and symphonic metal, I learned through 4chan. Black metal and Death Metal, which sucks balls, from /mu/.
Pop. The stuff you listen on the radio. I heard it on the bus from school and on radio stations with my dad so I was most familiar with this.
Latin, or music from Latin America. My parents always listened to music in Spanish considering they're from Mexico. It's the stuff my mom puts when we go driving in the car. Some of it I liked.
Alternative. From Anabel, my sister. Ew, that's My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy central and it's the music. Admittedly, MCR has some pretty catchy tunes. This is what my sister always hears, ugh. Refer to this
[chart].
Reggae. I think this is original content. I found this through last.fm when I was searching for music of different genres. Simple beats and it is sung in an interesting accent/dialact.
Russian. Uh, I was looking for Russian music on Last.fm. I learned that tags could find music and Russian is the first language that came to mind. I didn't chose Japanese because I was thinking at the time that Japan sucks!
Spanish, or music from the country Spain. Uh, it's related to Latin and found at the same time but the Spanish accents sounds terrible spoken, tolerable sung.
Ska. From Last.fm and inspired by that Simpsons comic.
Folk. from darkvvulf. I found his last.fm page and saw he listens to mosty electronica, folk, and drum and bass. Folk though is regional though. Mariachi is mexican folk, bachata is Domincan folk, blah blah blah. World music sounds alright most days.
Instrumental, aka no bad singing, just bad playing. Classical music was something I thought I liked but didn't. Most of this is just video game music and some composers that I thought play alright music that I already knew of.
Experimental. Some guy Andrew, introduced me to experimental stuff which I think is pretty strange music but I don't get it. That not getting it sort of interested me more.
Punk. Derived from Ska Punk really. I thought that was ska punk was plain ska. Looked up punk on last.fm. Dead Kennedys I think came from darkvvulf.
Soundtrack. Video game/music video. Doesn't need much explaining.
Electronica. Dan and Darkvvulf. This music is crap, lol.
Industrial. Andrew fellow above. I looked up wikipedia and thought industrial encompassed everything that most people would encompass not being music and being experimental.
Electronic. See Electronica.
I'll write more later. This inane shit is fun to write but I feel like actually have fun. Wait a sec.
