So a few weeks ago The Skeleton Poppies had their first show using the crazy FX stuff we've been doing. Also, it was at the Vets Hall, which is a really big venue for Santa Cruz, so it was a pretty big show for us. We advertised it a lot.... then only 10 people or so came... THEN the sound quality was all screwed up so the whole show sounded AWFUL. It was such a bad show... I was so pissed and frustraited when it was over. On the other hand... people seemed to like it more than I expected them too, considering how much I thought it sucked.
So last night we had our second FX show at Battle of the Bands at the Catalyst Atrium. We tried a new set-up (only using our PA and not touching the house gear) and this time the show went off without a hitch! All my friends said it sounded real good, and that they liked it a whole lot. Katelin and Mike especially liked it which was really nice. I also noticed a bunch of random people in the crowd that I didn't know who seemed really into it during the performance... some of which came up to me afterwards and told me how much they liked it. It was a really redeeming feeling after the first show was so screwed up. Of course there were some people who just hated it as all... but that's all part of the plan. So I'm totally stoked on that show... I wish I'd gotten someone to video tape it... *shrug*
After we were done playing we were all hanging around outside the Catalyst. This guy about 30 feet away from us started kicking this change machine... like he was trying to kick it over, or break it or something. And we were all kind of going "man, what an and idiot-jerk-brain." He proceeded to kick this change machine for a good five minutes straight, and I was really getting fed up with him.... so I decided to call 911. I called, and told them what was going on and where, and they stayed on the phone with me for 3 or 4 minutes at which point the cops showed up and gave him a citation and now he has a court date. It was VERY statisfying and felt good to be a "good citizen" or some-such...
In other more general life news... school is hard but good. I've pulled my grade up in Physiology to a "B" right now, and I'd be happy if I maintained that. I've been working with the cadavers in anatomy, which is a really odd thing.... it's much more impacting than I thought it would be. But it's a good experience... I'm learning the main muscles with their orgins, insertions, and actions.
Things are going very well with Katelin. Though... I upset her a bit today because I very spur of the moment decided to go on a camping trip with Kyle to the Pinnicles. Katelin confessed to me that it's hard for her that I'm not a very good planner, and do things so spur of the moment all the time because she's really big on planning. For example, if she'd known last week that I was going camping for a few days, she might have planned this week out a little differently; that kind of thing. She sometimes has a hard time telling me difficult things, or things she think might hurt me, or something that's been hurting her... that kind of stuff is always hard to talk about but we've maintained a record of always being %100 open and honest about everything. I should also make clear that this is really a very small thing in an ocean of goodness and love... we haven't had the tiniest of tiff in a month or so...
Katelin is currently taking a nap. But Kyle's going to be here any minute, and I'm going to try to go snuggle with her for a few minutes before I have to leave. Peace.
