Tis the season for zombies!
Saw Zombieland the other day, and while it wasn't a Romero-esque critique of society, there's plenty of zombie-killin' and it certainly lived up to my expectations. On the independent front the Bijou gets "Dead Snow" this next week - Nazi zombies in the styling of the Evil Dead films, what more could you ask for?
All this zombie-ness has gotten me thinking - what would you / should you do? What's your
As soon as the infection is confirmed (especially if it's in the immediate area)
1. First 15 minutes
- Go through cell phone contacts to spread the warning to family and friends. Advise them briefly on what to do.
a. Suggest to people out of town to either try to get out of populated areas or if it's too late to grab as much food and water as they can and find a safe place to barricade for a few days/weeks.
b. Inform friends and sister in town to get there things and either meet at rendezvous or remain indoors until pickup.
- Grab the baseball bat from closet (note to self, buy baseball bat), throw some first-aid supplies, flashlight, batteries, and a few other supplies into backpack. Leave home.
2. First 15 - 60 minutes
- Secure transportation, either hotwire a parked car (note to self, learn how to hotwire a car)
- Pickup sister, nearby friends who need transport, head for rendezvous (the strip mall near Gilbert and Highway 1)
- Meet up with everyone at the rendezvous, divide up the supply run - half go to one of the grocery stores and pick up some food and supplies, half hits the Ammo Bearer and the army surplus stores (which could be dangerous if owners are infected and even more dangerous if they have not).
3. First hour to ??
- Assess present situation:
a. If spread of infection has reached this far and evacuation is not possible, pick a defendable building and take shelter, keeping vehicles nearby for an eventual escape and barricading as necessary. Stock enough food and supplies for a long siege.
b. If infection hasn't reached this far, finish supply run and go mobile. Head out of town, avoid main roads/highway as much as possible. Wait to make further plans until convoy is a safe distance from the cities.?
