This-n-that

In mid-July, hubby & I took our first trip to Vermont (or anywhere, for that matter) since the Fall of 2019. The 2019 trip had been for his father's funeral, and it's been rough not being able to see his mother for so long. Fortunately, his brother lives next door to her, so she's not totally alone. We left home at 4:45am in absolutely torrential rain. I was driving, and between the darkness and the downpour, it was not fun. It finally tapered off by the time we stopped for breakfast at 7am. I drove a bit further and then hubby took over for the rest. I had all thruway driving; he handled navigating through Troy and then Vermont. I started relaxing when we got to the mountains. Ah, so nice to be back! We'd rented an apartment through AirBnB, which worked out wonderfully. Only a few miles from his mom, and perfect for our needs. We'll book there again on future visits. It was lovely to spend time there and we managed to get together with his daughter/my step-daughter for lunch as well. That went unusually well, but we were not pleased at all when she casually mentioned as we were walking back to our cars that, oh by the way, she's not vaccinated. Just hasn't bothered. Typical of her, I'm afraid.

A couple of days before we came, his mother called and asked if we would like a desk that's been in the house as long as I remember. She's slowly going through everything and weeding out a lot of stuff. We said yes, so the afternoon before we came home we dusted it, wrapped it in a blanket and put it in the car. Gave it a really good wipe-down with plain water when we got home and put it in its new spot. It's a secretary desk that had belonged to her father in the 1930s, and we're not how much older it might be. So if anyone has suggestions on how to research furniture, that would be appreciated. I've included a photo.

Anyway, except for the rain, we had blessedly good driving both ways, made it home safe and sound and now are back to business as usual.
