If -6(2x+1)=-4+10, then x= my ass

Got my car fixed and my school books today. Also a $58.00 speeding ticket. Hooray!

And anybody who understands these:

5x - {2x=4 (x-3)} (simplify... and what's the difference between { and (?)
If -6(2x 1)= -4x 10, then x = ?
|-26 10| (this one says evaluate... what do the | mean?)
2x-6<-9 7x (solve for x ( Read more... )

5x - {2x=4 (x-3)} (simplify... and what's the difference between { and (?)

that's weird. In all my math, I've never seen an equation like that. I imagine you just eval 5x - {2x=4x-12}, the distribute the - sign to the {} so that it's 5x-2x=12-4x, then 3x=12-4x, then 7x=12, x = 12/7, that's my guess.

If -6(2x 1)= -4x 10, then x = ?

I assume the (2x 1) is 2x to the first power, which is just 2x. This is
-12x = -4x^10 (the ^ is used in ascii to denote powers). You can divide both sides by x to get -12 = -4x^9 (x^10 = x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x) then divide by -4 on both sides, so 3=x^9, then x=3^(1/9)

|-26 10| (this one says evaluate... what do the | mean?)

the | | signs mean absolute value. Basically if you take the absolute value of a negative number, it makes it positive.

2x-6<-9 7x (solve for x)

the < or > signs work just like an = sign as far as solving an equation, you're just saying that x is less than a certain value for this equation to be valid.

(-6a²b³)(2a to the 4th b²) (simplify)

not sure I follow what they're asking for this one...

the square root of 27x²y³

Square root of 27... So if you break out 27, it's 3*3*3. when taking the square root, you can break this down as Sqrt(9)*Sqrt(3)*Sqrt(x^2)*Sqrt(y^3). This equals 3*Sqrt(3)*x*y*Sqrt(y).

(3x-5)(2x 7) (simplify)

I guess just multiply through using FOIL (First Outer Inner Last)

15x - 3 (it says factor... what does factor mean?)

factor means (usually) to break down to simpler numbers, etc. So 15x-3 would simplify down to 3(5x-1) if you factor out a 3.
x²-6x 5=0 (solve for x)

Is there a + sign before the 5? If so, you would just want to simplify x^2 - 6x + 5 so that you get two factors.
(x-5)(x-1)=0... this would mean that x would be 5 or 1 in order to equal 0.

hope this helps a little.. :)
