aha-ha, it is the same everywhere. Two months ago one of us was walking down some streat, where he rarely walks, with a bag of greens. A few days ago our neighbour asked him, where was he going, and what was in the bag.

I love this - "nothing here matters and nothing that happens here ever will". Makes the life peaceful and relaxed.

Haha. It's very much like my wife's village in the Czech Republic. There must be places like this in Britain too but I've never experienced them. Maybe in rural Wales and Scotland.

We found this old photo of my wife's grandfather sending off a friend into national service in the 1930s. They are all young men from the same village, my wife (born in 1978) told me, matter-of-factly. How could she be so sure? Their descendants inherited their faces, she explained. She can easily name a grandchild of every man in this photo, still living there.
