I dreamt that a strange artifact has been uncovered in Italy. It dates to the Roman period but is apparently a modified replica of a type of Etruscan calender. It's spherical in shape, and is made of bronze, sort of like an Antikythera mechanism.
The device has something to do with fate. Its settings can be associated with some event -- including events that have yet to happen -- and once engaged, the event is guaranteed to happen, even if great steps are later taken to avoid it.
