The dream takes place in some sort of post-apocalyptic New England village. It's autumn, an Indian Summer -- the trees are bare but it's quite warm.
The central action of the dream revolves around the performance of a wedding, which is in the style of something between a military parade and a protest march. In fact, all activity undertaken by village's inhabitants has a martial undertone to it -- not in an imperial sense, but more the feel of revolutionary rabble, an ad hoc mixing of civilian and military costume, gesture, and so on. There is the sense that the town is half-abandoned, occupied by squatters or something.
