His head bent down towards me and his lips gently brushed mine. His hands went under my top and rested on the small of my back. My body shivered in delight and heat coursed through me from wherever he was touching me. His lips became harder on mine and my body pushed forward to mould against his. My arms went around his neck and my hand lay in the back of his soft hair.

It was all instinctual, as if I had no control over how my body was responding, but it didn’t matter because my mind was agreeing whole heartedly.

Then my mind betrayed me and I started worrying about all the little things niggling at me. Sam’s trust issues, the new information about the old Blue One were making me doubt myself as well. Was I destined to be evil? Why hadn’t Percy told me about the old Blue One? Was I even worth Sam and the others trusting? Obviously there were things about me even I didn’t know.

Sam could obviously feel me starting to pull away and broke the kiss. He looked a little hurt though.

‘What’s wrong?’ He asked, but I didn’t have the heart to voice all my doubts so instead I just shrugged and said I was just worried about my mother. I felt a little sick in my stomach, though it was true, this was the first small lie I had told Sam. I didn’t really want to make it a habit.

‘I’m sure she’ll be fine.’ He tried to reassure me, and somehow when Sam said it, I believed it. ‘Let’s get some sleep shall we. We’ll get this mess sorted in the morning.’ And with that he pulled me down into the bed and threw the blanket over us.

I didn’t have time to object as he stripped us both down to just undergarments under the blanket and enfolded me into his arms. I instantly melted into jelly in his embrace. I felt flushed at the lack of anything between us, being so close. It was wonderful and scary at the same time. Was Sam expecting to go all the way so soon? I wanted to, but it felt a little fast?

I could feel intense warmth coming from Sam and the contact was giving me an erection. I wondered if Sam was as aroused as I was and if he could feel my arousal since I was so close. I began to slowly and shakily slide my hand down to the border of his under-trousers. Butterflies played havoc with my insides, but as I neared the edge of his underwear, Sam shivered and grabbed my hand, and pulled it back up to rest on his broad chest.

‘We don’t have to do anything yet James. We have all the time in the world to be together.’ Sam whispered in my ear and placed a gentle kiss on my temple.

I was relieved that he didn’t expect us to move fast but also a little disappointed, and concerned of why he didn’t want to. But instead of worrying I just lay in his warmth, contented while Sam soaked into my bones. I had the most restful sleep of my life…Until the dream came.

The dream was the same as last night. I was atop the cliff with the weights in my hand and the other elfen and my parents were there again. I could see they were shouting at me but I couldn’t hear what they were saying, only the deafening crash of the waves below.

The worse part of the dream was the hard look of disappointment and hurt on Sam’s face whenever he looked at me. I hated myself for whatever I had done to cause that expression. They pushed forwards until I was on the very precipice of the cliff again, and then I was falling.

I woke up just as my body would have been hitting the water, gasping for air. I was soaked right through but after huddling a little closer to Sam, I soon dried from his sunny warmth as it chased away the horror of the dream. I never wanted to cause that disappointed look from the real Sam. I peeked an eye open and saw that the sun would be rising soon. I shut my eyes to relax into a restless sleep before I would have to wake.

After a few hours of just lying there without actually settling, I opened my eyes and woke up fully. I could hear a few birds that had made a nest in the roof over night, chirping. Sam was snoring away, it wasn’t an annoying snore though, just a light sound coming from his nostril with each breath that sounded like the wind whipping through the grass. It was kind of endearing rather than irritating, almost melodic, soothing me.

I stilled as I noticed a small deer grazing only a few feet from our makeshift bedroom. It was a magnificent sight to wake up to and I stared at it for a good while, watching the way it chewed the grass, ears alert for danger. A twig snapped in the distance and the deer looked up, saw me watching, and elegantly sprang away.

With the absence of the deer I decided I had to do something. Remembering the diary I took it out of the bag I had placed on the ground last night. Returning to the bed, I began reading.

The first section was all a girls notes on her experiments with her blue magic. I skimmed them as they grew increasingly complex, until some parts were written in a completely different language all together, with no explanation of the runes. Excitement grew within me; I would finally have a little guide to work from with my magic!

There was then a huge section missing and it went straight to a bunch of diary like entries. I read on.

Dear Diary and whomever may read it,

The way it was written showed that the girl was clearly much older when she wrote these entries. The first line almost stopped my heart.

I have stolen the sacred stones from the others and intend to hide them.

I tried to calm myself and carry on reading.

I do not trust any of them anymore, especially the Ghost One and his owl. I haven’t for a while now, not since those trained magicians found our last hiding spot so quickly.

I must also remember to protect myself when sleeping as I don’t believe my dreams are safe any longer and cannot trust that they have not been tempered with. The magicians will do anything to get their hands on the sacred stones and I have vowed to my love to protect them and give them to her.

Should any Blue One happen to read this diary I hope you’ll take one thing from it, especially the earlier entries. Do NOT trust your fellow Elfen brothers and sisters. They may seem nive at first but history and experience has taught me that they are too easily influenced and not guided by truth and knowledge as we are.

I hope you will use the knowledge and magic in this book to guide you on your path.

I must stop writing now as the others are coming. No doubt to try and convince me of their intentions again. But I will be gone by the morrow and they shan’t discover my cunning til the morning.

Yours Truthfully,

‘Kai Nerine’

I took a moment to absorb everything that she had said, my head reeling. I couldn’t believe it. A lot of things had been put into question, including the trustworthiness of everyone I’d met so far. Should he believe what Nerine had been saying? The others hadn’t waited long to kick me out so how reliable were they?

I decided to put it out of my mind for now, it was too much to deal with so quickly and I couldn’t be sure what Nerine was saying was true. I would soon see when I went back to see the other elfen. For now I skimmed some more entries.

The rest of the entries described how she escaped and places she hid. She talked often of a ‘resting place’ for the stones. She seemed to be getting close to her destination as further on her joy and relief was clear. Then on the day before she planned to finally hide them, the entries abruptly stopped.

I noticed that the forest was unnaturally quiet. Sam had stopped snoring. I quickly put the book back away. As I did, I heard another twig snap, closer this time. Sam suddenly shot up in the bed and froze, scanning around him. His eyes had a green glow as he looked around him and he appeared to be looking at nothing.

I noticed now that Sam’s snoring wasn’t the only noise that had ceased. There was no sounds at all, no birds, no rustling of leaves. Dead silence.
