Long story short, I had too much fun this weekend. My throat is raw from yelling/laughing/being around smokers/drinking too much? And I have not had any compos mentos in the last few days.
But! I am taking the day off to get better and hopefully write a few words. Work on my massive to-do's.
HAHAHA, Dean would do well in Oz, that's all I'm saying.
No, really.
Someone must have caught this and meta'd already, I'm behind on LJ so ignore this if it is nothing new to you.
There's a kinda not-so-throwaway line Sam says when he remarks how Dean seems to fit in. I can't recall the exact quote, I might come correct later but basically he says that Dean is too comfortable in prison, he fits into the role of being a criminal very well. I could ramble about that for a while but I'd rather tell you a story.
This weekend I took a trip to the Brooklyn botanical Garden for the Cherry Blossom Fest. It was AWESOME. I took gorgeous pictures with my 35mm that I never get to use because it's manual and there's no flash. Yay for lovely sunny/overcast days.
The only downside is that I live in Astoria, Queens. Which meant that I had to take a very LONG subway ride to get to the right part of Brooklyn. I whipped out my video iPod and decided to watch an episode I got from iTunes. After much deliberation I picked Nightshifter.
I really haven't re-watched this episode in a while, but I thought it would be nice to do so since I had just come off of Folsom Prison Blues and I could revisit the whole beginning of the whole Agent Henricksen bweeznis.
There's another kind of throwaway line from Dean, when he tells Sam that he plays the role of a FBI agent a little too well.
Get it? The foiling? The dynamic? The yin and the yang?
On the inside: Dean is a criminal, Sam is the long arm of the law. If they weren't working together, I'm sure they'd end up working on opposite sides of the spectrum. And that brings the whole "Sam is probably evil"-thing to a whole new level.
Which makes my upcoming EvilDefenseLawyer!Sammy fic all the more interesting. I really like this dynamic that while they both are doing what they think is right, Dean's better at doing the dirty work while Sam would get the job done within the limits of the law. Sam's the kind who could never really fully justify criminal acts, (I'm sure he guilt trips like no other,) he would want to figure out a different way.
I'd had some ideas for Dean in some kind of AU-verse where he becomes an Elliot Stabler-esque (see Law & Order: SVU) police officer, but I'm starting to re-think him. Would he ever be the kind of cop who could do the right thing and follow due process, give the guilty the right to defend themselves? Or would he be a kind of Vic Mackey from the Shield type? Would he just be able to follow orders and occasionally beat up a rapist during questioning? Or would he just go nucking futs and shoot 'em all and let God figure it out?
Maybe Sam would show up as his well-meaning good-cop partner? A helpful FBI agent who covers Dean's ass? Or a leggy prosecutor who makes sure the charges stick?
In other words, in my head Dean = Elliot Stabler/Mike Logan and Sam = Olivia Benson/Casey Novak
