Holiday Music Party: All I Want for Christmas

  • Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas

I don't want a lot for Christmas/there is just one thing I need...

Pitch-perfect pop tune. Really one of the best original Christmas songs in recent times. Out of the covers, Olivia Olson's is my favorite, MCR does it in their own screeemo style, and the Trekky Orchestra is indie pop all the way.

Covers: My Chemical Romance, The Trekky Yuletide Orchestra, Olivia Olson (from the movie Love, Actually)

  • Eartha Kitt - Santa Baby

Come and trim my Christmas tree/With some decorations bought at Tiffany's/I really do believe in you/Let's see if you believe in me...

Who doesn't want something good for being a little bad? This slinky seductive tune is a personal favorite of mine. Check the Everclear version for the flipside of the song.

    Cover: Everclear

  • Bob Seger - Sock It To Me Santa

I say come on Dancer, come on Prancer/A brand new Santa's got to be the answer/Come on Comet, and come on Cupid/Don't just stand there lookin' stupid

I had this on a cassette tape when I was a kid and I think I wore it out just listening to this song over and over again. It's probably one of my all-time favorites and it goes on every Christmas mix I've ever made. If this doesn't make you wanna jump up and dance around the room, then I don't know what will!

  • Nat King Cole - All I Want For Christmas (Is My Two Front Teeth) (MJ Cole Remix)

Gee, if I could only/have my two front teeth/then I could wish you/"Merry Christmas."

The only track I actually liked off of Merry Mixmas. It's this really cool, deconstructed version of the song. Sit in front of the virtual yule log and enjoy.

  • Fountains of Wayne - I Want An Alien For Christmas

I want an alien for christmas/Bring me an alien this year/I want a little green guy/About three feet high/With seventeen eyes/Who knows how to fly/I want an alien for christmas this year

    Well, who wouldn't want a pet E.T.?

    All songs zipped up!

    Schedule:

So, I asked this last night, but what do YOU want for Christmas?
