Tonight was the (supposedly) super-scary dinner over at Akers. We went as a floor dinner. And it was not as scary as the signs led me to believe. In fact, it was lame. I don't know about anyone else, but low lighting combined with lots of people and flashing red and orange lights equals stumbling, running into things, and utter confusion for me. I'm still not really sure what was being offered for dinner... or what I ate. The best part? Well, there were two. The first was three cafeteria staff members doing the "Thriller" dance in the middle of the caf, which was absolutely hilarious. The second was the free caramel apples. I brought mine home to eat it in my brightly-lit dorm room. It was delicious. (I kinda want another.)
I also received a letter from my favorite Braille-writer, Cindy a.k.a. Hot Stuff! I'm so lazy that I haven't even opened it yet, but I know I'll be spending the next four days or so translating it out of Grade Two. (EDIT: I still have not opened the letter. Go me!)
I am also so lazy that I have not even translated my half of the Laura Bridgman speech I have to give tomorrow in sign language, along with my partner Laura W. We will be telling the class everything they've ever wanted to know about Laura Bridgman, a deaf-blind woman who lived slightly before the time of Helen Keller. I wrote the speech yesterday in English but I need to translate it into ASL gloss... and then learn to sign it. Either I will translate it tonight (unlikely) or tomorrow when I get up and around. (EDIT: Not only did I end up translating the speech, I also practiced it until it looks like I know what I'm signing about, and then I video'ed it. Will wonders never cease.)
I love the fact that because it's almost Halloween, networks are showing some of the weirdest stuff ever. Right now I'm watching a "Paranormal State" episode on possession, and there's also a special on spontaneous combustion on the Discovery Channel. (EDIT: They exorcised the chick on "Paranormal State" but apparently her problems with Satanic forces still continue. I smell a cliffhanger!) Yesterday I watched a bunch of specials on the Aryan Brotherhood and Satanic gang recruitment, and there are lots of other ones about aliens and UFOs and poisoned candy.
Last night I was doing my mound of disability-class homework and listening to the "Rent" soundtrack, and the song "I Should Tell You" came on... a song that Kate-sham hates. And I was seized by the desire to dial the phone and wait until someone picked up and then blast the song and then hang up, all the while laughing maniacally.
I was so pleased with the idea, though, that I decided to save it for a time when I'm in a super-bad mood and need a real pick-me-up.
I love and miss you all.
