Character Information ;
Name: Jade Harley
Name of Canon: Homestuck
Canon/AU/Other Game CR: Canon
Reference: here is a link to the MSPA Wiki summarizing Homestuck, and here is a link to a page on Jade herself.
Canon Point: In Act 5 Act 2, immediately after Jade and Jadesprite tumble down the hill: here.
Setting:
Homestuck is set on Earth, and it’s mostly like our regular everyday earth -- the same places and landmarks exist, and it’s assumed that everything else is the same as it was in April 2009.

Except for you know, meteors.

In fact, Jade and her friends weren’t actually born like normal humans - turns out, the video game that they play (SBURB) has had them in mind from the beginning. It’s not chance that they were born and raised to play. They were created within the game itself, using a process called ectobiology, and then sent back in time (on meteors!) to be raised by guardians (who were also sent back in time via meteor). Jade is the paradox daughter/granddaughter of Grandpa, an eccentric hunting fiend slash millionaire. She lives on an island alone (with the exception of her dog, Bec, and Grandpa -- he’s stuffed now) in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Her friends have nicknamed it Hellmurder Island - a tropical place close to Hawaii with a strange Frog Temple and a huge volcano. She’s no princess or fairytale hero - she’s actually a pretty normal girl, aside from the strange storage devices used in Homestuck called Sylladices and the fact that she can use rifles proficiently. Much like a computer, people in Homestuck can store information (or in this case, physical items) in card-form. These cards are then placed in the sylladex, which can be structured in any number of different forms, or modii. Jade uses several different kinds, all based on different children’s board games. They are the only kind in the series that aren’t in some way math-related. Currently, her sylladex is set to Pictionary, though it used to be set to Jenga and Memory.

Another thing that’s slightly different than earth is the distinct lack of outside communication between the four friends (Jade, Dave, Rose and John) and the rest of the world. It’s as if people simply don’t exist, unless they’re a guardian or someone online (such as the trolls). The four kids know each other only through pesterchum, an online instant messaging program. They don’t really have friends outside of their group. Their world is fairly small, partially because they’ve been chosen to play SBURB from the start. Their entire lives have been designed around the game.

Oh, and the world is destroyed by meteors. Didn’t I tell you that meteors were important?

As the kids start playing SBURB, meteors fall from the sky, destroying surrounding areas (and eventually, destroying all civilization on the planet). It was going to happen anyway, though the game certainly is to blame. In order to stay alive, the four kids are forced to play SBURB. It’s a narrow escape into the alternate reality that the game creates for the players. Each player gets their own separate land and title, tailored to what some could consider their destiny. It’s a challenge, to complete the quests set down in your land and become a person that’s true to the title. This is another distinction from Earth (what earth? it was destroyed when the meteors hit). Jade is the Witch of Space, residing in the Land of Frost and Frogs. The other three have unique worlds that the viewer has seen, but Jade has not been to any except her own currently.

The players' worlds surround the planet called Skaia, the chessboard planet in the center of the Incipisphere (or the universe that the game exists in). Skaia is the ultimate goal for players of SBURB - they are literally told to "build up to Skaia," that is they build their houses high enough up that they can leap through the final gate of the game and fight the Big, Bad Boss. The point of the game is to create another universe - and this universe is created only by the Witch of Space. Jade has a lot of things she has to do within the game to make this universe, though the kids' session was doomed from the start. As she looks for the ultimate frog that contains the universe, she is also building her house as high as it can go, while helping Dave to build his own house (as a server player, or the player that has limited control over another person's environment). This keeps them all extremely busy.

The players of SBURB also have another self, called their dreamself. Jade’s dreamself has been awake on the moon of Prospit for a very long time. Prospit is the moon closest to Skaia, big and golden -- the people that dream there are given access to visions of the future via clouds that float around Skaia. Jade uses these clouds to see into the future, until her dream self dies. The other moon, called Derse, is a purple moon that exists near the furthest ring, allowing the people that live there to listen to the whispers of the horrorterrors. Jade has never visited Derse (that we know of) and it’s said that the whispers are not really meant for Prospitian ears, so it’s probably just as well. If you would like a map of Prospit, Derse, and Skaia, you can look here. Sorry, it is supposed to look like it’s drawn by Jade.

Personality:
Jade is described in canon as “a very silly girl.” That is for the most part, true. Most of her time outside of Sburb is spent indulging in fun things, like talking to her friends online and playing her eclectic bass or her tangle buddies. She is happy, usually putting a positive outlook on things, and is very rarely exasperated. This is expressed in the way she types. There, exclamation points abound, as well as smiley faces. Rarely does she forgo these, even when she’s angry (in fact, she almost uses MORE exclamation points when she’s upset). Jade tries to be friendly and welcoming when she can, because she believes in the fact that niceness should be reciprocated. When people are nice to her (or when she believes they can be nice), she is friendly and sociable. However, when they are annoying and angry (read: Karkat), Jade can get testy and irritable as quickly as anyone else. She doesn’t like to dwell in unhappiness, though, so her general demeanor is one of a cheerfulnessl.

Jade is fairly naive. She grew up somewhat sheltered, living on an island with mainly her dog Becquerel for company, since her grandfather gained an appreciation for wanderlust and took off to explore the world. He was shot when Jade was young, leaving her alone to stuff him and take care of herself, except for Becquerel. Bec isn’t just a dog, but rather a guardian of Earth. He is omnipotent and very caring, but it still makes for a lonely childhood of sorts. Jade doesn’t seem upset by this. Her sense of the unfairness of life is small, and she tends to rely on her dreams and her dog rather than common sense. Jade also doesn’t understand popular culture references (except for Dave’s comics, which she reads religiously in a non-ironic way). She doesn’t always understand her friends’ jokes, but laughs anyway, as a good friend and supporter should. Don’t mistake her naivety for dim wits. Jade might overlook the grim details, but she is extremely intelligent. Her favorite things to do include dabbling in nuclear physics and gadgetry, of all things. She has used her time to her advantage, cultivating her talents. Jade has many unusual skills for a girl of thirteen, since she was taught by her grandfather at a young age to appreciate the thrill of the hunt and other various things, like science. While she may not be culturally in the know, Jade knows enough in her own fields to make up for that.

Jade has a problem with falling asleep in strange locations; this is frequently put down to a severe case of narcolepsy. It is debated that she might never actually fall asleep like a normal person, which is probably true -- Vriska put her to sleep when she was young, and kept forcing her to sleep at random intervals. She can’t control where she falls asleep; in canon, she almost seems to have a knack for falling asleep at the WORST times, like right after she’s transported into the medium and when she’s trying to sneak by her grandfather in the grand foyer. Jade presumably never knows that she’s fallen asleep (though when asked, her dream robot will admit that she probably is). People tend to make fun of her for this, but the only time this ever gets on her nerves is when it’s insults from the trolls, most of whom Jade detests. She is the only one of the kids to actually count all twelve trolls at first, and is presumably the one that they first made contact with (and the one that they contact the most, though these conversations aren’t always shown in pages). Jade may prefer optimism to anger, but that doesn’t make her immune. She is angry first and remorseful second -- her first reaction to people not doing what she thinks they should is impatience. She has a lot of things that she believes should happen, and when people butt heads with her it makes her a little perturbed. Karkat certainly got on her nerves long before the series started, causing Jade to block him on Pesterchum. Karkat finds a way to get around the block, much to Jade’s chagrin, and they continue their arguments. Her anger generally takes its form in a manner of ignoring whoever makes her mad, though she doesn’t often show true rage. When she does, it’s almost like a complete snap in personality. When Karkat and future!Karkat get into an argument in a chat (via freaky time shenanigans) Jade reverts to angry words and expletives, shocking the pair of them. This doesn’t happen often, but that’s probably a good thing; most people don’t expect it of her, since it’s so rare. She can curse like a sailor and smack people around with the most angry of them.

Since Jade has been awake on Prospit, the dream world closest to Skaia, for as long as she can remember, she often seems to be much of a dreamer. Because of her dream self, Jade has received visions of the future through Skaia’s clouds, telling her to do things that are important to her friends’ quests. When she wakes up from these dreams, she arranges her thoughts by tying pieces of multicolored string to her fingers, to help her to remember certain events. Most of her friends find her to be a little bit eerie and secretive, since she often knows things that they haven’t yet told her. Jade refuses to share anything more than is necessary with her friends about their futures, exclaiming that if she tells them, they will “mess it all up.” Despite that, she wishes all of her friends the best, becoming the main cheerleader of the group as the story progresses. As the last person to enter the medium, Jade is left out of the loop to some extent. Despite this, she doesn’t stop believing in her friends. She nudges them in the right directions, knowing that they’ll bring her up to speed eventually.

Abilities and Weaknesses:
• Ability to see the future (this used to be an ability, but since the destruction of Prospit and the death of her dreamself Jade is no longer able to do this. SHIT SUCKS.)
• SUPER AWESOME NINJA RIFLE SKILLS?! Jade is an extremely accurate sharpshooter, and carries a rifle with her at all times.
• Sylladex! It’s an ability because she can pick up items and carry them around, presumably even really large items depending on the modus. Her current sylladex requires her to draw the object to captchalogue things, but she has all sorts of different types to choose from. in Singularity she would be restricted to Pictionary modus, and cannot pick up humongous things like planets or treasure doomsday bombs because that would be silly.
• an uncanny knack for guessing things right on the first try! Jade is a master at Memory.
• The ability to use music in order to move plants/cause plants to grow. Presumably part of her role as the Witch of Space, Jade can move lilypads and grow flowers in a day using the awesome jams she plays on her eclectic bass. However, since her eclectic bass is gone, she can’t do this at the moment (or would be able to in the game). She is, however, still very good at gardening!
• Uncannily good at tinkering, as well as pretty much a genius. Jade studies nuclear physics and tinkers with objects to create snazzy new items like the lunchtop. However, she’s not a brain in anything else, really. Her smarts are limited to the things she really cares about. And don’t worry -- she may have made a super powerful robobunny, but she refuses to make anything that could seriously harm another person (like rockets or whatever).
• SHE CAN FLY. Uh. With the aid of her Iron Lass suit. It’s not really flying, but she has rockets in the soles of her shoes which is pretty awesome.
• Her Ectosooth Specs allow her to see anywhere in the Incipisphere at the current moment. if she focuses on one person. They are also a computer. In Sing this would obviously require player permission and Jade wouldn’t use them unless she absolutely had to.

• Temper. Jade has a pretty big one when everything’s said and done, and if she gets really angry then it’s probably best to get out of her way. She regrets it later. Usually. Her pride is pretty big too.
• Narcolepsy. Caused by Vriska but still a big problem, Jade’s pretty good at falling asleep anywhere and everywhere.
• I am pretty sure you should consider her extreme love of anthropomorphic fauna to be a weakness. Jade will absolutely refuse to hurt anyone, “anthropomorphically inclined or otherwise.” She doesn’t mind getting rid of imps, but if she were ever forced to hurt another person? Denied, go home. It’s not happening. Ever. She would rather get hurt than have another person get hurt.
• Jade is stubborn to a fault -- her ideas are important, and while she can be very nice and welcoming with her friends, she is definitely not a saint. She will argue her point, especially with people who argue back, like Karkat and Eridan.
• Refusal to talk to people who annoy her! She purposefully ignores Karkat and pretty much disses Eridan from the start of their conversation.
• EPIC HERO COMPLEX. Oh John, your dreamself is going to die? LET ME DIE IN YOUR PLACE. LIVE ON TO SAVE THE DAY. Jade will gladly die for any of her friends, no matter what the circumstances. It can often get her into trouble! She doesn’t mind, but her friends might.
• Jade is way too trusting. She likes to believe the best of people until proven otherwise, and really? That could get her in serious trouble. If people are nice to her, she’ll be nice to them, as long as they don’t send off any creeper vibes.

Inventory:
HER SYLLADEX, which contains....
• regular, trusty rifle!
• Dress of Eclectica (with Squiddle coat and shoes!)
• Iron Lass suit
• Dead Shuffle Dress
• The Duttle. It’s...creepy.
• Lunchtop (with pesterchum and everything, it’s her favorite computer AND her favorite lunchbox!)
• Junior Ectosooth Specs
• The pieces of Johnny 5

Appearance: Jade Harley looks pretty much like any normal teenager. She has long black hair (it curls on the floor when she sits down!), and is of an average height, though a little bit skinny from years living alone on an island with no super proper meals. She has horrendous eyesight, and always wears large, round glasses. She has two buckteeth, that stick out of her mouth slightly. And previously , she kept colorful bits of string around her fingers -- now, she has one string, a blue one. It’s on her index finger to remind her of what she needs to do with John. She might add more, if the situation called for it.
Age: 13

Samples ;
Log Sample:
There was tumbling, and then falling.

Jade could remember the moment before her house had collided with deep, unforgiving snow -- she had been yelled at by Jadesprite. Presumably, the house had snapped from the force that Jadesprite emitted, but Jade wasn’t really sure why it did that. Didn’t Bec live in it all those years? Why wasn’t it spriteproof? It seemed silly, but there hadn’t been time to talk. Suddenly, after a moment of weightlessness, she tumbled head over heels down what felt like a hill. Suits of armor and a wall went flying around her, until suddenly there was nothing. The ball had stopped (hopefully, she couldn’t be sure), and Jade was upside down in a pile of Grandpa’s stuff, struggling to free herself.

“Jadesprite?” Jade called for the girl - dog? - that she had created, and received only the sound of sobbing in response. Digging herself out of a pile of clutter, she flipped herself around--

and fell. It wasn’t something she had expected, though it was different than falling down the hill. This time, there was no armor to dodge. It was just falling, through space, and she screamed despite herself. Falling down a hill was one thing, but this...was frightening. Jade flailed, trying to find something to grab on to - where was the wall? Jadesprite? Her house? But there was nothing, until she landed on something sharp.

“Ow!” The girl rubbed the back of her head, looking around. This wasn’t LOFAF - far from it, there was no snow to be found, and not a single frog. “How did I get here...?”
