Full Moon Swap - September 2007 (done)

Last post for this month's swap. For better or worse it's done. (And even boxed, ready to go out tomorrow.) Had another comedy of errors trying to get the clasp on. It worked but the screws were too long so I had to figure out what to do so they weren't sharp, pointy, potentially hurty bits inside the lid. And of course, I had to pry up some of the fabric lining so I didn't drill through. And it took both Love AND I about 45 minutes or so to get everything screwed in properly. I know it's just screws, but it was hard because the box is delicate wood, it's tricky getting it to go in properly, I stripped one screw and then the other half of the clasp uses nails which were near impossible to get into the small space on the hollow box....ugh. It was just hard. Then again, that's par for the course. This whole project was WAY harder then I anticipated. Took me weeks of working on it to get all the pieces together. (And I still could have done a better job, but it's pretty darn good for not knowing what I was doing.) I don't think I'd ever make another though!! Oh and I added a mirror when I was done to the inside as a finishing touch.

Here's the latch.

The inside with the mirror (and Gracie who wanted to sniff the purse.)

The complete swap. I still don't feel like it's enough, but I hope she likes it. I searched out about 40 recipes for her based on Florida oranges, grapefruits and citrus, plus Florida Strawberries and Florida tomatoes, formatted them and printed them up on 4x6 cards. It was harder then it sounds because she's a vegetarian so no meat/chicken/seafood (and there's LOTS of seafood recipes in Florida of course!) and nothing with garlic or onion since she's allergic. I got a mix of salads and desserts and other things that were mainly listed as side dishes but which could be a main course as well. I hope she likes them. (I wish I had a box to put them in but I didn't have access to a car in time to get one.) I also wish I had more time to get a few more pictures for the album but again, when you don't have a car of your own and have to arrange to borrow a friends to get errands done, not everything can get done especially when you just run out of time on a deadline.

Still, I really hope she likes it. She's had a few really bummy swaps lately and I don't want mine to be one of them. I'm really quite nervous honestly.
