Thursday Already?
Jeez, this week just went WHOOSH! right past. Not only is it Thursday already, but we're also into August. Holy crap time's a-flying lately! As such, I am super far behind on posts this week. Let's see if I can't play a little catch-up.
Last Weekend - We went to see the Simpson's Movie last Saturday. It was funny. Basically, it felt a lot like an episode that just happened to be an hour and a half long. There were quite a few laugh-out-loud moments and I still can't get the "Spider Pig" song out of my head.
On the downside, it was weird how many characters either weren't in it, or were literally background in a mob scene with no speaking lines. Given the big Kwik-E-Mart promotion, for example, I thought you'd see Apu in the film, but no, not really. I guess it's hard though since there's such a large number of characters after 18 seasons, but still... that was one of the more glaring oddities for me. All-in-all, funny and worth watching.
Sunday I made one of my famous (and delicious) lasagnas. Yum!
Monday - Monday was my friend Rand's birthday.
He's a "7" birth year too (as in 19x7) so this is a big birthday for him. (Along with me back on May 16th and my mom soon on August 8th.) All round-number, new-decade birthdays for the three of us. Since we went to see the Simpson's over the weekend and Love had to help is parents on Sunday, Rand and I went to the Aquarium on Monday. He had wanted to go over the weekend, but time just didn't permit. Love of course had to work Monday but wasn't overly excited about going anyway, so no big loss for him. I didn't want Rand to be stuck sitting around at home on his birthday either. It was fun. Got to see penguins
and a gorgeous owl, so those two things made my day. I took pics but I haven't uploaded them yet. I'll post when I do.
Tuesday - I was going to go up to my mom's and visit with my cousin who's in town, but I slept totally wrong or something because I woke up with the worst pain in my neck. Right where my neck meets my shoulder. I think I pulled something because I was in agony and really couldn't move it hurt so bad. It ran down into my upper arms too. I ended up basically taking Advil, using my hot beanie bag and sleeping most of the day. It was just miserable.
Wednesday - Thankfully, my neck felt better yesterday. Still a little sore, but felt more like "bruise" sore instead of "stabbing pain of death" sore. Didn't really do anything though during the day. Rand was out with his mom, so I couldn't borrow his vehicle to drive up to my mom's.
Today (Thursday) - Which brings us to today. It has been dreary and raining all week. Crazy amounts of near non-stop rain. And the thunder and lightening! Man. It's been nuts. We normally get short, daily afternoon showers in the summer, but this has been really something all together different. It just rains all day, and all night. And the sun hasn't really been out at all in days. (This is, as a reminder, the "Sunshine State" famous for it's sun and averaging something like 360 days a year of sunshine.) As I'm typing this, big surprise, it just started raining. Again. Yeah, I know we need it. We've been in serious drought conditions for most of the year. But this is just a freakish amount of rain. I don't know that I can impress upon you how odd it is for it to rain here this much. Hours and hours of rain. This is the state where it literally can rain on one side of the street and not the other. Ah, here you go:
Record Rainfall
July 31st: Record rainfall at TIA, 3.28" and there were many northern counties that saw more than that. Some trained spotters near Clearwater had over 4 inches, Brooksville over 3 inches and downtown St. Pete, almost 2 inches.
These were ONE-DAY records. ("TIA" stands for "Tampa International Airport" by the way.) It's a lot of rain.
My cousin is going to be heading back to Nevada, so unfortunately, due to circumstance, I didn't get to see him. He's technically my second cousin but he's 18 and graduated HS this year. His mom - my first cousin - is 50 and therefore old enough to be my mom. It's weird in my family because I'm the youngest of the 13 grandchildren. By a lot. So the cousins who are at my "tier" in the family are all basically an entire generation older then I am. I'm closer in age to my second cousins. (I have a second cousin who's 28 for example.) I haven't seen him since he was a little kid (like 8 or 9 maybe?) so it would have been neat to see him all grown-up. Hate when things just don't work out but what can you do?
So....yeah. I think that's about the gist of the week. I need to upload my photos off my camera because I need to post about my received Full Moon Swaps package. Meant to do it the other day but...you know how these things go. Actually, I think I'm going to go eat something and then upload my photos. Heh. I think this is how I never got around to doing it yesterday.
TTFN.
