PC Problems Continue
Ok, so the new(er) 80gig hard drive apparently is bad. Three days of trying to format it and install windows on it and failure everytime.
So, then Love stuck an old 20 gig in with a clean windows install and nothing else just to let me get online. Well, on a blank system without even my old drive hooked up as well, I'm getting the exact same problems. Meaning? It's got to be a hardware problem. Most likely ram. And not actually my windows being corrupted afterall. Because, new(er) motherboard, new(er) video card, new(er) sound card and one new stick of ram on a fresh install and I get the exact same problem as before? Yeah, not a virus or windows issue. Nothing else would make the system stay on but the software bomb out at literally random times across both configurations unless it's one thing that's been in both like the memory. And the memory could easily cause software crashes but not necessarily system crashes.
To help narrow down the problem, I'm on the fresh 20gig drive right now and took out one of the sticks of memory. If it happens again, I'll take out a different stick. So far though, no crashes, but since it's entirely random and I've only been at this a few minutes, I can't be sure yet. Once I find the at-fault stick of ram, I can actually hook my REAL hard drive back up and get my damned pc back again.
This has been beyond a practice in frustration, let me tell you. I just want to get back to normal and have access to my files and to do the normal things I do on a daily basis. Hopefully, I can quickly track down the faulty ram and move on from this seemingly never-ending experience.
Off to surf more to try to prompt a crash. TTFN.
