Fifth Spark

[Liz has been paying attention to the posts about the statues, along with the statues, themselves. They've been popping up everywhere, and so far people are getting antsy.

She's just been observing, however. Liz is a B.P.R.D. agent - it's her job to deal with strange happenings, and this is pretty strange. So, she's taken note of everything. The ( Read more... )

Sounds like you know what's going on.

Cockatrice. [She's just reciting the information, now.]

It's a creature that can turn people into stone. Looks like a rooster. The known ways of killing it are with the sound of a real rooster, making it look in a mirror, or a weasel - they're immune.

There's no way of knowing for sure if those methods will work, but it's better than nothing.

You think you'll be able to help? [She trusts Wolfwood, so she's hoping that he'll be able to handle this.]

Got it. I'll see if I can't lift some mirrors from any of the bathrooms they got around here. [And he's absorbing it readily. Still kind of hard to believe that they're fighting a chicken but he's getting more and more used to the idea of weird shit happening here.]

Yeah, I'll do what I can. Just lemme know when you've got enough people to deal with these things.

[Truth be told, he'd have done it even if she hadn't asked. Wolfwood may claim indifference to a lot of things but there's kids at risk here and that tends to be something he can't just sit on the sidelines for.]

Good idea. [The more mirrors they get, the better off they'll be.]

Mirrors or anything reflective. Also, we need to think about possible ways to avoid getting turned to stone. It's hard to know for sure, since the way the petrify people varies on the lore. Some legends say it's sight, others say it's the sound of them crowing, and others say it's their breath. We'll have to keep this in mind, work on thinking of some preventative measures for either cause.

[As for calling him when the time comes, that much is a given. She needs all the people she can get.]

[And he's putting his brain to use. Dude might not be book smart but he's pretty good at thinking on his feet and improvising.]

If it's their breath, I'd say the best way to avoid it is not letting them get close to you. You know if those legends say anything about whether you gotta make eye contact with them before they turn you into a statue?

Maybe get some stuffing outta pillows or something? Improvised earplugs.

[The only way he can think of figuring out any of this for sure is trial and error but he'd rather avoid dying again, if he can help it.]

Or warm and reshape some wax - that'd be more effective in blocking out sound if the crow is particularly loud. [Assuming it's sound that does it.

But if it's sight...]

Not sure about eye contact, but one way to avoid being looked at is to make sure it can't see us. [Either by staying hidden, or covering the creature with something as soon as they find it.]

Sounds good to me. [She's the expert after all, so deferring to her knowledge is just fine with him.]

I'll get some sheets. We can throw it over them, wrap them up.

Good. Maybe we can meet up in Eider tomorrow. From the sounds of it, there's probably more than one cockatrice out there. Better if there are people in both places. [From what she's heard so far, plenty of people are going to be guarding Ardel.]

I'll bring some makeshift earplugs, along with any mirror I can find. [And a weapon, in case the methods she's aware of don't work.]
