"Sorry Hyukkie~ah.. I'm really sorry...."
When he had muttered the words, he had been dreading for worse. He had felt his heart clench in a tight knot and falling to the depths of his stomach.
Lying on the bed -legs dangling off of the side- he heaved a heavy sigh, and threw an arm over his eyes obstructing the day light streaming through the window.
3 weeks.
He did a mental calculation of the time past since he had left with the rest of Super Junior M for debuting in China.
The distance, wasn't what really mattered. It honestly wasn't.
He wouldn't waver because of the distance.
He would only waver because of one thing. one person to be exact.
Trying to close his mind off to the unpleasant thought, he climbed to his feet and walked over to the photos decorating his mirror. Lifting his finger to his smiling face, he heaved another sigh, as he felt the knot in his stomach tighten yet again. Letting his finger slide off the photo, he dropped his hand to his side and walked out of the room.
"Sorry Hyukkie~ah.. I'm really sorry.... I couldn't keep in touch that well. We've been real busy. I hardly slept for 3 hours"
--------------------
He leaned against the balcony railing, a coke in hand, eyes scanning the rooftops of Seoul.
3 weeks. And no calls.
He lifted the soda to his lips as his eyes closed at the sensation of the liquid burning through his epiglottis. His senses savored the ecstasy as his eyes slowly opened and scanned the bustling city once more.
It's been 3 weeks since he had left with the rest of Super Junior M to organize for their debut in China, and since, he hadn't called him. Once. Nor had he answered any of the calls he gave him.
Completely forgotten?
Crumpling the empty can in his hand, he made to return inside, as he heard a door open from within the dorms. His searching eyes found Hyukjae dragging his feet out of his room.
Same reaction there?
He guessed, climbing through the sliding doors into the living room. At the movement, Hyukjae turned around to face him.
"Hyung.." Hyukjae called out after a pause.
"Hae ignored you as well?" He questioned, inquiringly, craving for answers.
"Not really. He called 3 times. Apparently they're really busy. Everyone's only had less than 3 hours of sleep daily. Sounds tough for them" Hyukjae answered, his voice steady.
"oh?" He replied simply,
"and 'as well'? So Kyuhun has been ignoring you?" Hyukjae questioned, walking towards the sofa and plopping down on it with a soft thud.
His face twisted in pain and anger at eyunhuk's words. Yet what hurt the most was the realization that he had nothing to defend himself with, for Hyukjae was right. word to word. Hiding the hurt in his eyes, he walked over to where he sat, and sat across from him at the opposite end of the sofa.
"seems like it.." Hyukjae simply replied, his eyes shifting from Min's face and then outside.
"what's the deal? concert practices? Don't they even take lunch breaks?" He asked sarcastically, trying to maintain his composure, yet his voice cracked in all the wrong places.
"hmm.." His companion answered, and a heavy silence fell around them, each falling into their own thoughts.
Distance wasn't the deal here. It's not the problem. The problem lies with who he's with.
Sungmin's thoughts erupted with images of betrayal of him and who he's with. Forcing his thoughts to shut down, he glanced over at the man sitting across from him.
"Do you think maybe, it's that?" He questioned his companion, as he watched Hyukjae freeze in his movement of fixing his position on the sofa at the words.
"No" He managed a strong rejection before falling back into his position.
Then his eyes lifted from where they've been digging caverns in the floor and looked at Min. Sungmin looked him directly in the eyes, as they both raced to the back of their minds for a memory. A specific memory.
We've always watched them.
Me- Kyuhun and Hyukjae- Donghae.
But for them two, they only had eyes for themselves.
I always looked out for Kyuhun, and since my eyes never left him, I knew where his eyes refused to leave.
Hae. Lee Donghae. His beloved fishy.
For days, and months and years, I watched him simply looking after his beloved one. Always in the shadows. Always picking up the pieces of Hae's broken heart, as his own broke into pieces.
And I picked up his broken heart, yet he never realized what I go through for his sake.
I let it all pass, because I felt, strongly, that Hae would never realize his feelings.
I just wanted to stay by his side. And be the one to mend his broken heart.
Or so I thought, until the day I ran into Hyukjae questioning Hae about his feelings.
"You love him don't you?" He questioned, and Hae's eyes widened noticeably. I watched from the shadows of the corridor as he hid the blush creeping under his skin, and tried to shake off the comment as a joke.
But of course, that was not to be. Hyukjae and Hae had been friends for 10 years, and one knew instinctively when the other lied- or in this case; attempted to.
"Hae. Are you honestly trying to lie to me?"
Hae silenced. The moment dragged on, and after a while, Hae heaved a long sigh then replied,
"I do" and walked away.
Hyukjae stood frozen to the spot until Hae's footsteps died away, then he fell to his knees grabbing his head.
The reaction was obvious. He obviously loved Hae.
As I watched Hyukjae take out his frustration on his hair and the fists that now crashed onto the floor, I fixed my resolve.
I love Kyuhun. And I know he loves Hae. But I love him too much to just let him go.
Deciding on what needs to be done, in order for me to get that which I can no longer live without, I strode up to Hyukjae in brisk yet confident movements.
------------
Hyukjae's head rest on his hand, his index finger firm against his temple, as his thoughts trailed on.
"i do"
The chances of something happening was infinite.
He knew of it so well, yet he still refused to believe it. If karma does exist, he didn't want to accept the repercussions of his actions.
I knew about it.
For a long time.
But the hardest part has always been accepting reality.
He's always around Kyuhun. He's always smiling around Kyuhun. He's happier with Kyuhun.
Need more evidence? Not really. Just.. I didn't want to accept it.
But I was forced to.
"Do you think maybe, it's that?"
He froze at the words.
That? no. NO. NO NO NO NO NO.
His heart winning over his mind, he turned around to face his companion.
Sungmin stared at him, eyes full of fear and doubt.
no. NO. no. no no.
"No". He managed before falling back onto the sofa.
Then his eyes lifted from where they've been digging caverns in the floor and looked at Min. Sungmin looked him directly in the eyes, the fear sinking into their eyes, taking over the life within them, as each could see the other slowly dying at the reminder of their own selfish actions.
