A/N: This was written for the first thedrabblefiles challenge. I like writing drabbles, I like XF fanfic - this combines the two. Come join in! And I know I owe people fics from the meme I posted a week (!) ago. I will post them soon, I promise. I have nothing on this week and no college on Tuesday.
These are all beginnings:
A magician, a board game, a bright light.
His name echoes around the shadows of the room where he stands, unable to move.
“Fox.”
He cannot move, does not move as his sister rises into the air, caught in the tractor beam of light that carries her away.

An argument, an application form, an acceptance.
A letter on FBI headed notepaper, her father’s disapproving stare as she leaves home for the last time.
“Dana.”
She doesn’t look back, doesn’t look back as her mother follows her down the street, as her father lifts a hand to wave her goodbye.

A basement office, a poster proclaiming the desire to believe, a handshake.
“I'm looking forward to working with you.”
They catalogue minute details in the seconds they stare at each other; auburn hair, green eyes, clear nail varnish, firm handshake. Ally. Foe.
These are all beginnings.
