The big news in The X-Files fandom this week was the announcement that series creator Chris Carter has officially signed on as an executive producer to IDW comic series, making the comics the official season 10.

That's a really interesting point and one I hadn't considered. I'm...not entirely sure what I feel about IWTB! I saw it about 9 times in the cinema and I haven't watched it since then. I defended it a lot, but it's certainly not the idea that I had of what Mulder and Scully would be doing. I think in some ways I view IWTB (and S8 and 9, I think) as alternative canon. I mean, they have to be canon because they were produced by FOX and 1013, CC was still the executive producer, etc. etc. but I don't necessarily think anything that happened post S7 was true to the characters or the series, so it exists in a different space in my head.

Getting back to your points though (!) I like the fact that they're going to be bringing the mytharc stuff back in and talking about colonisation. I'm less concerned about the idea of them living a 'normal' life than you are, I think, though it depends on when they're setting this series and how they're defining normal (normal for M&S might not be the same as normal for anyone else).

I'm definitely reserving judgement until I read the comics, but I can see the pros and cons of this.
