Welcome to the team.
Today at practice, everyone that had NorCal as their first race either with UC Irvine's Dragon Boat team or as their first dragon boat race, ever, got dunked in the water. It's team tradition. I saw it coming, since there was a warnng in the email, but I didn't think too much of it. As I watched with much amusement as the senior guys tried to dunk various people (it was also a guy's birthday the Friday before the race), I kept thinking "haha they wouldn't dunk me. It's not gonna happen." Then my friend Betty, who stood next to me, got carried off by one of the coaches. I started laughing because only one guy had to carry her, and not four guys like the first two dunkings. Then I felt someone else grab my waist from behind and lift me up. I screamed as one of the other coaches carried me into the water and threw me in.
"This is for going up to Norcal with us. Welcome to the team."
