Okay so here's the deal. I'm at work and probably going to be slammed as soon as this goes up, but it's a risk I'm willing to take. I'm bored out of my mind and need something to do to calm myself down a little bit before I jitter myself into pieces

And I'm at work so I can't really run through canon to give myself a review of things.
In general, Spitfire has a lot of respect and hope for Ikki -- especially after the Behemoth battle. Until then, Ikki was kind of a tool that they were going to use to bring down Sleeping Forest. Whether or not this was actually going to be Spitfire's end goal up to that point, we'll never know. However, following the battle against Mitsuru and Akira, Spitfire's view of Ikki changed drastically. He was someone whom Spitfire could put his waning hopes and dreams behind, and maybe just this time, reach them.
He's definitely put his faith in Ikki by the time he decides to pass on the regalia. As much as he has confidence in Kazu's potential, he'd also have to trust that Ikki was someone who would not betray the loyalty Kazu shows. He's already started making moves covertly in this direction -- telling Benkei and Yoshitsune half-truths in order to keep things peaceful while his main goal is to stir things up further.
Spit still wants to use Ikki, but he's not just a means for deception anymore. He is the means by which things will change. It will be his wind alone that keep the A-T world aloft as he drags everyone in beneath his wings.
On a personal level, Spit's fond of Ikki in a "that stupid little kid" kind of way. He's not overly attached to him and while he has a very strong attraction to him, Ikki is not someone that Spitfire would ever consider in terms of any further relationships. He relates more to Ikki than he does to Kazu sometimes. They're both confident in themselves, they both attract people unconsciously to them, they're not going to give up on their dreams for any reason.
Ikki is someone that Spitfire relates to best in terms of A-T, and no matter how close they get because of it, it's still always going to be about the A-T.
... I think. >_>
ANY QUESTIONS? (because I'm sure I missed some stuff. we need to play more.)
