rain, rain, and more rain

Honestly, if god wanted me to forgive my father for throwing my 3 yr old top of the line energy efficient dryer in the dump, (mum had borrowed it, last winter while we were overseas) then last month wasn't the way to do it!!
one of C's friends has a home weather centre, here is what he summaries "With 195.4mm, July was the wettest month of any I've recorded in 9 years of records and had nearly 4 times the average July rainfall. The previous monthly record total was May 2006 with 159.4mm. This July also recorded the highest daily July total with 46.4mm on the 24th.
This July had 18 rain days, my July average is 11 and the average rainfall for July at my station is 54mm.
The driest July I've recorded was 2000 with 18.8mm." (jeff's home weather station)

to explain a rain day is a day with 1mm or more rain. To put this into context, chch annual rainfall is somewhere around 450mm so getting over 40% of annual rain in one month is mammoth!
it does make me happy i live in chch rather than auckland as they had over 25 rain days, and have a much higher annual rainfall.

so last month consisted of hanging washing form every surface, rain, rain and more rain! which lead to puddles, mud and condensation. and i was over winter before july even started!
usually, i like winter, i love the cold frosty mornings, the crisp sunny days that follow and the ready excuse to eat comfort foods like chunky soups, rich casseroles and mashed spud, not to mention apple crumble! unfortunately, excessive rain, puts paid to the crispness, the sunny days, ditto, leaving comfort food... too much comfort food!
comfort food is a funny thing, my clothes are fitting a little less comfortably now!

rain, comfort food, winter
