(He wanted to talk to someone about it, but he didn't want to be laughed at either.) In the end, Jaime had opted to chalk it up to being crazy. At least, until he saw some weird guy walking around in a lion costume. Huh, wonder who that is---
And that was when he fell face-first into the water. Ignoring his tools (which floated everywhere in the water), Jaime couldn't resist the urge to yell, "Oy! What was that for?"

Yup. There were a few things floating in the water, probably the other boy's. "Oh! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to--I'll get that!" He started to kneel down by the edge of the water, trying to grope for whatever had fallen in.

The voices in his head were acting up again. Were they asking him to kill that guy? Just for hurting him? Jaime gritted his teeth. He was not going to let the voices control his life, he was not going to admit he was crazy. Not at all.
Or at least, he wasn't going to as he commented, "It's okay, really! I can get it!"
... Apologies are never good when they're accompanied by a sudden summoning of a laser cannon around the apologizer's arm and a shot that nearly missed poor Emil. Jaime stared at the laser in complete and dumbfounded shock, almost as if to say, 'what the heck?'

He did get a glimpse of whatever had tried to hurt him. Emil didn't even know how to describe it, but it didn't look friendly and it hadn't been there before. "What is that thing?" This didn't seem like part of the usual strangeness that spread over the town, like the costumes or the candy obsession. That was safe, at least. This looked like it could kill him.
Judging by his expression, even the kid holding the thing didn't seem to know what was going on. That just made things scarier.
