(
As is common on the island, a festival had sprung up overnight... )
This was evidenced by the mess left on the napkin tucked and hanging from his collar, as well as stuff that he forgot to take care of around his chin. He did his best to pace himself so that he could try one of every kind of meat available at the vendors. The vendors loved him because of this, no doubt.
If people didn't run into him there, they would probably find him hanging around the outskirts of the festival, close enough to still hear the folk music, but far enough to be a little separate from the boisterous celebratory atmosphere. He wasn't against such things, not at all; he just felt a little out-of-place among those he saw laughing and smiling together.
He wasn't sure or not, but part of him wished he didn't feel that way.

But one thing he would never get used to were those, ridiculous in his opinion, festivals. He hadn't intended to participate in that one, but simply happened to pass by. He grew tired of the happy crowd in a few minutes and decided to leave before they drove him crazy.
Noticing Vash, Ren didn't come up to him immediately. Instead, he wondered why the man wasn't in the middle of the party, giving everyone fake smiles as he usually did. Well, he could ask him directly. Since he already was there and happened to be one of the very few people Ren didn't mind talking to...
... He did not just think that.
"You seem less lively today, idiot." Ren stated, stepping closer to Vash.

"...Mm. I'm sorry. I'll be back to normal soon, I just have to get through this rough spot," he explained vaguely, his tone dropping down some at the end of the sentence. Nobody liked a whiner, after all!

What about Vash's usual attitude was 'normal' was beyond him, really.
"I don't care." The shaman assured him before continuing, "... It's uncommon to see you acting like that. Without any particular reason, that is."
Obviously, he couldn't just ask him if something was the matter.

Vash held up a gloved finger, intensely pointing at the large building at the head of the festival, cheerful mug of beer icon displayed proudly over the locked and boarded entrance. "You know what Oktoberfest is really about? It's about BEER.
"Where's the beer, Ren? Where did they hide it...?" Vash said in a crazed, spooky voice.
Apparently he didn't want to talk about whatever was actually the matter with him!

"Don't be stupid. It's not even haunted." Ren replied coldly. "And I know what Oktoberfest is. And I don't give a damn about beer."
The conversation had only lasted for about two minutes and his patience was already running out.

"I might break in if nothing happens by the end of the festival. Let's do it, Ren."

"... 'Us'." Ren repeated, his anger becoming more and more clear as he spoke. "What the hell do you mean by 'us'?"
He looked at the building and then back at Vash. "I have no intention of doing something like that."

Pausing, he sighed heavily, drooping his shoulders.
"Guess you wouldn't, huh... You're not really all as violent as you used to be, huh... You're so peaceful now, huh..." he mumbled half to himself and half to see what kind of reaction he'd get from Ren. Inwardly, he was rather impressed that Ren had calmed down in the past year! Peace was important. As was love. Naturally.

He knew all too well he had changed during his stay on the island. Memento Eden itself wasn't the reason for that, though - it was because of his memory of Yoh that he was different from before. However, he didn't think someone would notice that. Was his change really that obvious?
"Hmph. What are you talking about?" Ren asked, giving the man a questioning look.
