Tear wandered down the street at an easy pace. A few questions and a quick trip to the library had revealed only the bare facts about this festival. Apparently "Oktoberfest" had begun in one world as a celebration proceeding the marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. It had caught on, grown larger, and now included games, food stands, traditional music and dress, and a number of performances and other festivites -- as well as alcohol, it seemed.

Tear didn't much care about the latter, although the sudden appearance of a large, boarded-up building (a pub...?) made her wary. What was that doing there? For all she knew it had been abandoned because it was a dwelling place for ghosts and apparitions. She didn't want to chance it.

On the other hand, it was easy to get caught up in the festivities. She enjoyed learning about the pastimes of other people, other places, other cultures... it was too bad there was nothing like this in the Qliphoth. It would have been funThere was far too much to ( ... )

Luke, meanwhile, was wandering around the festivities himself. Of course, he was initially attracted to the food vendors, and while disappointed that chicken did not seem to be a primary feature, was enjoying the sausage links he was eating nonetheless. He marveled at how they tasted with the various spices mixed in; if only he could figure out how to do such things with his cooking...

He then spotted Tear looking at the performers. Walking up to her, he swallowed the piece of sausage he was chewing, and said, "You like these performers, huh?"

"Not necessarily," she answered automatically. For some reason there seemed to be an unspoken rule that Tear never straightforwardly admitted to liking anything.

Tear studied Luke for a moment. She wasn't particularly surprised to see him, and it would have been much more unusual to her if she hadn't bumped into him at all.

"We don't have festivals like this at home, and I thought it looked interesting. Actually, I was trying to figure out how that man managed to swallow a broadsword without choking on it. It seems dangerous, and would hardly be useful in battle. He must have been practicing for a long time."

She said that, but it wasn't terribly hard to guess that Tear was actually enjoying the performance, even if sword-swallowing wasn't a very useful skill in her book.

"Whoa, they've got a sword-eater here?!" Luke exclaimed. "I've never had the chance to see one of them before!" With that, Luke looked among the performers with a sudden interest.

Tear cracked a smile. "Yes, they do."

A brief survey of the area and Tear had located the spot where she had last seen the apparently very popular sword-eater. The melodist pointed towards a cluster of onlookers.

"There's a large crowd of people, but I seem to recall him being in that direction."

Luke looked in the direction that Tear was pointing. He was determined to see this, no matter what.

Tear certainly wasn't stopping him. Really, he could be such a child, but she supposed that was perfectly okay. After all, it was nicer when Luke was being like this than when he was depressed and conflicted. She had seen enough of that from other people, had experienced enough of that herself, too ( ... )

"Sure, why not?" Luke replied. Anything to get closer.

Tear shook her head and gave a slight shrug of her shoulders.
