Mist came in with a new gown, sweeping down modestly to her ankles. Having heard that this celebration would be Tanabata-themed, she had picked a red gown with flowers embroidered in silk. She felt it matched, to some curious extent, the more traditional formalwear she saw beside them. But still, it was a ball, and as a Crimean, she felt it was most proper to go in a gown.

She waited with a glass of ice tea by the food tables, where they had almost always met before each ball. She had briefly considered wearing her old dress for sentimentality's sake, but found that she really had grown taller and that it was unnecessarily tight on her. It was exciting, anyway, to have something new.

Considering he was suppose to be some badass mafia leader, he really should have a knack for picking out clothes that made him look devastatingly handsome. Instead Tsuna had to settle for a white suit that didn't completely make him feel a doofus. Once he entered the park, he took a quick look at the scenery before scanning the room for Mist.

He spotted her fairly quickly and waved before trying to push through the crowd. Moments later he joined her next to the food tables and internally congratulated himself for getting all the way there without having anything spilled on him. Tsuna smiled and took a good look at his date. " Wow. You look really great tonight." He was a little taken aback seeing Mist in the long gown as oppose to the short dress she normally wore. 'Girls can look so different when they get all dressed up.' he thought to himself.

"Thank you!" She set down the iced tea on the nearby table and stepped toward Tsuna, dry grass crunching beneath her feet. The slightly uneven park lawn made her shoes wobble around, and she thanked herself for not coming out in high heels. "And you do, too." White -- like a knight in shining armor, or like white chocolate instead of black. It was elegant somehow. She liked it.

"Thanks." He smiled and took her hand when she moved closer. Partially because Mist looked a little unsteady, but mainly because he just wanted to. He shifted to the side so they could both see where other people were dancing and leaned in so he could be heard over the music. "So, have you thought about what you want for Tanabata?"

Feeling a hint of his breath against her cheek, she replied just as close to him, "I always know a few things that would be nice to have. Maybe I'll take one of those pieces of bamboo after we're done." She emphasized this last part as she shifted a little closer to the dance floor.

"Heheh, well we have all night to think of wishes, so there's no hurry." Right now he only had one wish in his mind, and it looked like Mist felt the same way. He stepped back and made a little half bow in Mist's direction, holding out his hand. He was hoping the gesture looked gallant and sophisticated and not as silly as he felt. "Mist, would you like to dance?"

"Of course I would, Tsuna." Sure, he was a little high-pitched and small for a gentleman, but the gesture looked graceful enough to her. She took his hand, thinking that it'd be more formal (though too hot) to wear gloves, but the familiar touch of their hands suited her just fine. Perhaps it would be nice if he finished the gesture with kissing her hand, she thought.

Sadly, Tsuna didn't think of that. He was preoccupied with looking for an open spot for them to dance. His hyper intuition was apparently more interested in teaching him how to burn things than fully understand women. He led her carefully through the crowd until he found a spot with enough room for the two of them and racked his brain trying to remember how to dance.

Mist couldn't remember the proper positioning for a slow dance, either. But she was fairly sure it involved one hand on the waist, another in Tsuna's hand. And so, she clasped the hand she was already holding and moved her other to Tsuna's hip. Something like that, she thought to herself.

Mist seemed to know what she was doing, so Tsuna mirrored her. The whole thing reminded him of the last time they danced together, though thankfully this time he didn't feel as shaky and weak in the knees. He listened for the beat and tried to move with music, stepping to the left and hoping for the best.

Feeling Tsuna's momentum going to her right, she stepped that way to match him. Improvising wasn't so bad, she thought to herself. Glancing past his shoulder at more experienced couples, she felt slightly embarassed at their polished performances and daring lifts and twirls. But, she told herself, one step at a time -- and they were doing fairly well to move together.

Two successful rotations and they haven't crashed into anyone yet. Things were going well if you asked him. Confident that now he had a rhythm he could do two things at once he stopped thinking about his feet and focused on his partner. Huh, Mist seemed to be looking over his shoulders at something. He tried to think of what was behind him but it was hard when they were moving in circles. "A lot of people decided to come here, eh?" Tsuna asked, wondering if maybe she saw someone she knew.

"Oh... yep. Not as many as last year, but there are still a lot of people." She focused back on Tsuna as they stepped rhythmically (she wasn't quite sure if it qualified as dancing now) and smiled. The music rose to a crescendo and she squeezed Tsuna's hand, wondering if they should do something more dynamic than what they had been doing.

"I guess promising a reward is working then." When she squeezed his hand, Tsuna felt his heart flutter. He wasn't sure what she wanted but his dancing might have gained a little more oomph. More sweeping and less rocking with the music. Twirling and dipping were still pretty far from his mind, but the night was young. He could risk injuring them both later.

Now, this was nice. Mist went with Tsuna's bolder sweeping motions and smiled. Nothing fancy, but it fit the music and mood nicely. Besides, the music was some sort of sweet, calm waltz. This felt, somehow... more perfect than something more complex.

But that was a toe.

Mist took a step back in her passionate dancing, mumbled, "Sorry," and began again more conservatively.

"Don't worry about it," he said holding back a wince. It didn't hurt that much, after all. And no pain, no gain, right? They picked up where they left off and he tried to focus less on the mechanics and go with the flow more. Their dancing had seemed more fun for both of them when he stopped worrying about about everything.
