A little while before the ball began, Athrun walked out of the stairwell into the first floor hallway. In his hands were a bouquet of white roses and a wrist corsage for his date. After a little bit of walking, he came to room 108. He hid the bouquet behind his back, knocked on the door, then put his other hand behind his back.

Many girls would have taken this opportunity to panic, but Estelle was no stranger to balls, and this was but the latest in a long line of social functions at which her presence had been required. She hadn't remembered attending any with a date, of course, but she saw no reason to start worrying about such things right now. This was going to be fun!

She opened the door and beamed as she saw Athrun, curtseying on instinct. She had chosen a long, frilly white dress for tonight, and had performed all her necessary primping long beforehand. "Hi, Athrun! You look very nice."

Athrun smiled semi-nervously. For someone who couldn't remember anything of his past, he was surprisingly calm, albeit still a little nervous. But hey, that much was normal.

"You do, too," he replied. He then pulled his left hand out from behind his back. "These are for you," he said as he offered Estelle the bouquet.

"Oh, wow! Thank you so much!" Estelle exclaimed with genuine excitement. She'd never had a boy bring flowers before! ...Or so she remembered, at least. "Just let me get a vase for these..."

After the flowers were put away, she stepped out of the room and clasped her hands politely. "Um... I hope you know where we're going. I'm afraid I still don't know my way around very well..."

"Hold on, I have one more thing for you..." Athrun said as he pulled the corsage out from behind his back. "Let me fix this on your wrist and we'll be on our way.

"And to answer your question, yes, I know where to go. It's being held at the park south of the lake in the middle of town. I've been there on patrol a lot."

Wow, a corsage! Athrun truly was a gentleman. Perhaps he'd been a knight in his own world, or a prince. It was certainly something to think about. "Thank you!" Estelle beamed as she held out her wrist. "I suppose I'll let you lead the way, hehe!"

Athrun indeed did know where he was going. After fixing the corsage on Estelle's wrist, he led her straight to the park without any detours or looking for directions whatsoever. He came to a stop when he arrived, though. "Whoa, it looks totally different! If I didn't know this was where the park normally was, I'd never guess that it was here before tonight. Whoever set up the area did a good job of it."

"Do you think the island did it?" Estelle asked, cocking her head curiously. "If it was one of the people here, we should thank them. Somebody worked hard to put this together for us."

"Well, the event is sponsored by the town, right?" Athrun replied. "I'd say it was the work of some town officials. Anyway, what would you like to do first? Looks like we have a few options, so I'll let you decide."

"Hmm..." Estelle mulled it over. There was so much to do! She wondered if any of her friends were here. "Well, it looks like they've already started playing music. Would you like to dance?"

Athrun was a little surprised. He hadn't expected to go out onto the dance floor until after he had eaten. But he had no problems with dancing first. "Sounds fine to me. Let's go." With that, he led Estelle out onto the dance floor, took her right hand in his left, put his right hand around her waist, and began to dance. He had only been to one of Eliwood's lessons, but that was because he didn't need lessons -- he had apparently had been trained in dancing before he ended up in Memento Eden.

Estelle was a naturally talented dancer, and her recent lessons with Tear had already whipped her back into shape. She allowed Athrun to lead, weaving gracefully in time with his movements and the rhythm of the music.

As they danced, she found herself forgetting where she was, what she was doing. How many times had she been here, on the ballroom floor? For tonight, at least, she could pretend she was home...

...but was that really what she wanted?

As he danced, Athrun found himself wondering similar thoughts. Where had he learned to dance? Was it related to his precision shooting and quick reflexes? Just what was his life like before he came into Memento Eden?

But Athrun filed those thoughts in the back of his head. He could not answer those questions until he actually remembered something of his past, so there was no point dwelling on them. All that mattered was that he could dance, and he used his skill to make sure Estelle enjoyed herself.
