The moment Danny arrived, he was both relieved and amazed by how different the park looked tonight. The decorations and tables looked incredibly fancy and elegant--even if Danny still didn't know much at all about those plants and tags (despite having done this 'Tanabanana' stuff last year too). At the very least, Danny did not regret buying the suit he was wearing--had he come to the ball in anything other than this suit, he would've felt foolish by now.

Looking around, he noticed he was still among the earliest to arrive. Not even Olette had shown up yet! He decided to wait near the dance floor until she showed up, looking up to the sky in the meanwhile to see all the stars, able to pick out familiar constellations among them.

((OOC: the suit.))

She hadn't counted on her preparations taking so long. Sure, her hair was wavy, but did it really take that long to just wear it all down? Olette couln't help smiling as she slowly made her way over to her boyfriend (wow, she could actually call him that now? It felt... really nice and kinda weird in a way.) She fidgeted with her pearl necklace and thanked herself mentally for not going over-the-top as she had last time. Instead of a yukata, she'd chosen a simple yellow dress and silver flats. (High heels might've been more formal, but seriously? Who could dance in those?)

"Hey," She called as she stopped beside him. "The stars look really pretty tonight, don't they?"

[ooc; And here's Olette's dress.

He hadn't noticed Olette approaching, and quickly turned to glance who began speaking to him. He'd never really seen Olette dressed up so well as far as he could remember (which wasn't saying much, considering his slight memory problem).

"Y-yeah,they're really bright," he stuttered out, realizing that with all the lights, they shouldn't have been so visible. But it didn't really matter. What did matter was trying to think of a compliment that wasn't terribly cheesy. "You...look really pretty too, Olette." He gave her a nervous grin, hoping he wasn't screwing things up. So far, so good. At least his pants hadn't fallen down yet.

Olette nodded, though her attention was obviously more on Danny than the stars. Sure, they were beautiful... but she didn't get a chance to see him dressed up every night now, did she? Beaming as she heard the compliment, she giggled, "Oh, thank you! You know... you look really handsome too."

She was sure her face was completely red, but she didn't seem to care as she hesitantly moved her hand closer to his. "... You know, for some reason, the festival... just seems so much more special this year."

"Oh, thanks!" He'd never been described as handsome before...

If Olette's face was red, Danny's was sure to match. He wished he knew what to do on a date, but he really didn't have a clue how they went, other than the "dress up fancy, dance with her, and pay for the dinner" bit. Which didn't really make him feel any better.

Danny didn't realize Olette moved her hand closer. At least, not until he shifted his weight to his other foot, his hand dangling closer to hers. Almost instinctively, he held it gently (oh no, is my hand sweaty? I hope it's not sweaty.)

"You're right. It's really beautiful...and amazing." Danny was not referring to the festival.

After a few moments of silence, Danny decided he ought to do something instead of just standing there like he didn't know what he was doing. "So, um...do you want to dance?" he asked, immediately kicking himself mentally. Idiot, you don't know how to dance! Oh, yeah.

They were actually holding hands. They were actually holding hands! It was all Olette could do to not mentally scream with happiness. While she knew she was one of the guys back home, she also really enjoyed these kinds of girly things... and his hand felt really nice. She couldn't help swaying it slightly. It just felt right.

What now? It wasn't like they could publicly kiss - wait, why was she thinking about that in the first place? Just because they were dating didn't mean that she was a loose cannon.

But the mention of dancing made her blink. Dancing? She was okay at it, but if he said so... "Um, sure! I have to warn you, though. I'm not too good at this kind of stuff."

Oh, well. If Olette wasn't great at dancing, then they could just suck at it together! That felt like a much better option than embarrassing himself in front of a girl who could dance well. "Oh, well, I'm not that great either!" But dancing felt like it was something you were supposed to do on an occasion like this.

A few seconds later or so, he also realized they weren't on the dance floor yet. Still holding Olette's hand, he slowly stepped onto it, waiting for Olette to join him there so they could watch Danny trip over his feet watch Danny sink through the floor in the middle of some romantic moment start dancing.

Olette slowly nodded as she followed him onto the dance floor. It was a relief that he wasn't good either - then she didn't have to try and pretend to impress him! (And they could laugh about all the times they stepped on each other's toes, right?)

She instinctively loosely put her hand around his waist - that was what girls were supposed to do, right? - as she let him continue to hold her other hand. "... At least the music's good?" She laughed nervously, though she honestly didn't know if conversation was the right thing. Ah, well... it was just a dance. And they'd have fun together, right? That was all that mattered.

Danny had not expected to feel Olette's hand on his waist, but the initial shock wore off and he grew relaxed. They were together, why shouldn't she do that? And for that matter, why shouldn't he put his hand on Olette's waist either? (Was it the waist the guys held, or the shoulder? Oh, whatever.)

Now that that was settled, Danny tried to figure out the dancing part. Perhaps shifting his weight from foot to foot would make it seem like he was dancing without completely screwing up...

He looked up from his feet (which actually did no moving at all, really) to Olette's face as she spoke. "Yeah, it's really nice and different. I kinda like it." It sounded sort of foreign and Asian to him, like a lot of other events and things in Memento Eden. But he did truly like it, even if he wouldn't blare it out a stereo.

Danny gave his friend-turned-girlfriend a grin--this time slightly more confident. This wasn't going too badly at all! In fact, this date seemed to be going rather well!

[ooc; My bad, I messed it up. XD; Her hand's supposed to be on his shoulder.]

Olette laughed nervously as she realized her mistake. "Sorry," She embarrassedly replied as she moved her hand to his shoulder, guiding his hand on her waist. It felt so... different. But she had to admit, it felt really nice!

"Me too," She nodded, shaking her head to push her hair out of her face. But even if the music wasn't what what she expected... this date was a whole lot better than she expected. Returning Danny's grin, she couldn't help giggling.

This was the first date she could remember (had she actually been on one? Either way, it didn't matter) - and it was turning out to be wonderful. "I'm glad we decided to go together."

((OOC: ...oh. Well. Uh. I forgot how the whole dancing thing goes anyway. Durrr. 8D))

Danny hadn't really ever held Olette or anything like that before, so it seemed a bit odd to be dancing with her while his hand was on her waist. But he relaxed about that too, eventually. Nothing was going to go wrong tonight if he could help it--not tripping over his shoes, not saying something stupid, and certainly no accidental intangibility. He would make certain of it...somehow.

"I am too," he replied. He couldn't imagine going with anyone else, and even if he hadn't gotten together with Olette, he thought he'd still have asked her to go with him to this ball--just as a friend. Sometimes he still couldn't believe that they were actually a couple now; great as it was, they'd been just friends for so long that thinking of her as not just a friend, but a girlfriend still took some adjusting. "This is a really nice date." After all, how many chances would he ever get to go with his girlfriend to an event this formal? (What were the chances he ( ... )

There was just something special about Danny. Olette'd known that from the moment they'd met, even if she wasn't exactly sure what it was. He was her best friend... and now her boyfriend. How lucky was she? The guy she'd be dating just happened to be someone who knew her really well. (They weren't quite on "I know everything about you" terms, but they'd get there some day, right?)

"Yeah," She agreed, letting herself relax as they continued dancing. "It's been forever since Memento did stuff like this." There was a dance a long time ago, she remembered, but they - Danny and her - had gone as friends. She'd had other guy friends, but they'd all left her in one way or another, but Danny? He'd stayed. And for that, she'd be eternally grateful.

"Thanks," Olette found herself whispering to him, "... you know, for everything."

Everything? Danny wasn't quite sure what that covered. What had Danny really done, other than be her friend? (Answer: give her a chewed up teddy bear and beat her unconscious. He could've killed her--he was just grateful he hadn't.) But if Olette thought that he deserved to be thanked for that...well, uh, okay, then! Wiping off his confused expression quickly, he replied, "No problem. But I do owe you--you've been really great, too."

Danny did remember the last dance Memento Eden 'threw'. That one had been nice and all, but this was an occasion on a level all its own. He wasn't sure if that was because he was with Olette as a girlfriend, or if this really was just that amazing. "It has been a while since the last dance," he agreed, "but if this happened any earlier, I don't think we would've been able to go as a couple."
