((Continuing from this thread))))

There was nothing particular noteworthy about Grif being present at the bar. The tubby, orange-armored soldier was a very frequent patron, and, in fact, was probably present at the bar more frequently now than he was when he had actually been employed there.

No, there was absolutely nothing unusual about Grif's presence at the bar.

...Except for how he had a 15-year-old girl in tow this time.

"So, yeah, this is the bar here," he explained to Yuki, giving the room a sweeping gesture. "It's all pretty standard stuff. The strippers are pretty lame, but the booze is good and that's what we're here for."

Grif paused for a moment, before turning to look closely at Yuki. "Seriously, stay the fuck away from the strippers. They're both bad news."

Yuki was taking in all the new data afforded to her at the bar. There were several people she hadn't seen very often, a good variety of alcohol that she theoretically knew about, and women in various states of undress. Her mind temporarily referred to the books left to her, in some sense of the word, by Zapp Brannigan.

However, she was brought back to earth by Grif issuing a warning. "Understood."

Grif nodded in affirmation. "Good. Last thing we need is for you to end up a furry or something." His wisdom thus shared, he guided his poor, unfortunate companion to the actual bar section of the bar. There, he took a seat and removed his helmet, setting it on the bar and resting an arm on it.

He looked back towards Yuki, mostly to check that she hadn't managed to get lost in the crowd, before commenting, almost more to himself than to her, "Hmm, maybe we should start with something a little weaker than the scotch."

She followed Grif through the crowd, keeping an eye out while looking around for a new angle on things. She sat up on a bar stool next to him, taking notice of Heather running the bar. She saw the helmet on the bar and immediately snapped her head to look at Grif.

Oh. It was just a helmet. Not his head.

She turned back to the bar and began to look through the various types of alcohol they had. She made no sign of hearing Grif's comment, as she wasn't entirely sure what alcohol to start with either.

Grif gave Yuki a confused look when she suddenly looked at him, but decided to let it go when it passed without event. Whatever. He leaned a little towards her to get a better look at exactly what she was looking at. "Well, uh, what kind of stuff do you like? Y'know, like, sweet, salty, bitter, what?"

"I will be fine with anything, although I am accustomed to more bitter drinks." She looked back at him just to say that, staring at his face for a few moments longer before turning back to the bar.

"Bitter, huh? OK. Let's go for a couple of beers, then. It's a classic!" Grif leaned over the bar and waved towards the bartender. "Hey, Heather! I want a couple of beers down here!"

When the drinks had actually arrived, Yuki took one look at it to analyze the actual substance of the beer. Without much of a second thought, she took one of the mugs and drank.

And drank.

And drank.

And very gently put the empty glass back on the counter.

Grif paused halfway to starting his own drink as Yuki started chugging. "Uh, dude, are you sure you should be--"

Oh, wait, she was already done. At least she seemed fine.

Grif lowered his untouched mug and shrugged a bit. "Well, OK, how was that, kid?"

System analysis complete. Effect on core systems - negligible.

"It was good. I was expecting a more immediate effect."

Grif chuckled and leaned over to ruffle Yuki's hair affectionately. "It's no fun if you get smashed off your face from the start, dude. But if you can chug like that, I guess we can afford to upgrade a little." Once more, Grif signaled to the bartender once more, with a, "Hey, Heather, get me something a little stronger over here!"

As Grif was going to find out, the word stronger meant nothing in practice. While she took things slower on account of his suggestion, the drink was still gone at a very fast pace.

"You sure you haven't done this before, kid?" Grif asked before ordering another round.

"To the best of my knowledge, I have never done this before." And down it goes! Hmm. That one tasted a bit better. Analyze the substance of this drink and compare it to the previous drinks to determine the reason for the anomaly.

"Yeah, I guess you wouldn't know, huh? Stupid island." Grif shrugged before downing his own drink.

It was highly unlikely she ever went for a drink. Real age or fake age, capacity to become intoxicated or not, Yuki Nagato wasn't at all likely to be the sort to try alcohol, either on her own whims or at the insistence of Haruhi Suzumiya. However, as there was still a margin of error, she could not comment with 100% accuracy.

Rather than voice her reasoning, she simply downed whatever was stronger.
