And just as the sun began to dip under the horizon, Erk appeared on the scene. She was looking first the wrong way, towards the sun, until she turned around and saw that Mikuru was sitting in his school uniform in the other direction.
She walked, but keeping up a good pace; she didn't want to wait any longer than she already had. She had chosen a bit of a more casual attire than Mikuru had; a pair of trousers and a short sleeved collared black shirt with the top two buttons undone. The outfit looked a bit boyish, primarily because it was.
"Mikuru~" she called out, hoping to get his attention.
At the sound of his name being called, Mikuru instantly perked up. He saw Erk walking towards him and smiled, rising to his feet. "Erk!" he called back, waving his hand high in the air. He flushed a little bit as Erk approached with the sunset silhouetting her figure. Somehow she seemed even more attractive, if it were possible.
He walked a few steps to meet her halfway and greeted her with a shy smile. "I-I'm glad that you made it..." he said, looking away shyly, still smiling.
Wow... s-so cute... Mikuru's face grew red as he stared at Erk for a moment. Her flushed face made his heart pound in his chest. Suddenly aware that he had been staring, Mikuru shook his head. "Oh! N-No, you're not late at all! I only just got here myself." he lied, hoping it would make her feel better.
"Y-You look very nice..." he said, presenting her with a small bouquet of flowers. It wasn't anything huge, but Mikuru hoped she would like it. It had been a last minute idea. "These are for you..."
Her eyes lit up, but the rest of her froze. "Ah, that's so sweet of you, Mikuru~!" She took the flowers and it was clear she was more than a bit nervous. When the flowers had transferred hands, the flowers jittered back and forth, unable to sit still.
"I-I'm glad that you-" Mikuru paused, noticing the flowers shaking. "E-Erk? ...Are you cold?" Quickly, Mikuru removed his blazer and held it out to her. "Y-You could take my blazer if you're cold. I'll be fine!" His face showed how worried he was. "Please don't hesitate if you're cold..."
Nodding, Mikuru gently draped his blazer around Erk's shoulders. He blinked a little, thinking that he saw Erk's face change for a moment, but it was most likely his imagination. "Um... w-well, I thought... we could go get dinner together first... I-If that's okay with you?"
"D-Dinner sounds good... yes." She took a deep breath and exhaled after Mikuru put his blazer on her. This wasn't a dream, was it. "Any place in particular?"
"U-Um, w-well... I don't have any preference..." Mikuru stared away shyly again. It was hard to look directly at Erk. Her face was too cute to stare directly at, and if he looked any lower... He peeked just for a moment out of the corner of his eye and then quickly looked away, flustered. She was showing just a little bit of cleavage. Not a gratuitous amount, but enough to fluster Mikuru and look incredibly attractive.
"I-If there's anywhere.. that you'd like to go, th-then I'd be happy to go there." He turned, trying to look her in the face again, but began to flush and feel nervous.
Finally, she was getting a bit of confidence back. "Ah... if that's the case, how about here?" She gestured to a nearby restaurant that didn't look too bad. She didn't know much about it, but it was better than trying to decide on a restauarant otherwise.
"O-Oh, yes. That looks fine..." Mikuru allowed Erk to move ahead of him, trying to be a gentleman... though he really didn't know much about that subject. More disorienting memories. But what did the man do in storybooks? He brought flowers, he offered his jacket, oh! He pulled out the girl's chair for her.
As they entered the restaurant, Mikuru asked for a table for the two of them. When they arrived, he quickly rushed over to her chair and pulled it out so she could sit, blushing the entire time.
Mikuru sat down and smiled, fidgeting nervously with his menu. "Um.. let's see..."
Then the two of them ordered their meal, ate their meal, and it was delicious. Then the bill came.
Mikuru heaved a small sigh as he finished his meal. It certainly was a good choice. Now there was just the matter of the check. Mikuru picked up the receipt and looked it over before reaching into his pocket. Suddenly, he was hit with a wave of despair, entirely visible on his face.
What a fool he was. He had been so used to the free meals provided in the apartments that he completely forgot that meals cost money elsewhere. He picked up his head a little bit to look at Erk, tears in the corners of his eyes. "Erk... I... I don't... have any money to pay for this..." His voice was filled with disappointment as he spoke.
Lowering his head again, he turned away, trying to hide his face. "You must think that I'm horrible..."

Erk was afraid.
It passed in the merest of moments before she smiled weakly. "M-Maybe a little... thank you."

The more she saw Mikuru react around him, the more she was reminded of Louise's constant doting.

He had no money.
